JDM Civic Type R - Preview by Car & Driver
http://www.caranddriver.com/previews...ic-type-r.html
Finally, a short review of the JDM Civic Type R by an American car magazine.
This person in the C&D forum has a very nice summary

"Yes Honda should bring the JDM Civic Type R to the US. By '09 at the latest!. Priced at 26k, the car would sell like hotcakes. I think it compares very favorably to the last Integra Type R we had here--just look at the resale used examples command to see how highly the car is thought of here. Why does the US not get Type R? I believe we are the largest market in the world for BMW M products. Why would we not like a baby M3? I drive an 10 year old M3 myself, and would snap up a Civic Type R tomorrow if I could. We don't want cars that look fast--we want cars that are fast, that corner in a neutral fashion with minimal body roll, have serious fade-free track ready brakes that feel like you are stepping on a brick when you brake, seriously bolstered seats, pedals set for perfect heel-toe, and a fast steering rack with loads of feel. By all accounts the Type R delivers in all these areas (in a way the Civic Si, sadly, simply does not). So bring it. We'll buy it. And Honda can make more.
Myself, I would have a Type R over an S2000, even though I'm 44 with a good income and could afford a third car. I don't want a third car. I want a daily driver that's track ready (like my M3) and can haul my family of 4 in a pinch. Look at how well the Evo sells. Here's a car that handles similarly, brakes as well, and is similarly track ready for nearly 10K less. Yes, it would sell."
What do you guys think?

Just because they could bring a "Type R" over here doesn't mean we'd automatically get the fire-breathing JDM version. Top Gear and Fifth Gear did a segment on the UK Type R vs the JDM Type R, and the JDM was much more hardcore.
If that were to happen, whats the difference between a Type R and an Si? Basically just the name...

if you like the jdm ctr, then you'll love the mugen civic rr. only 300 units made, but they are badass:

Also, I find it amusing that the JDM Type-R has hydraulic power steering instead of the electric unit in the USDM Si. You just get the feeling that Honda knows something that they're not sharing.

Back on topic, I might be convinced to buy a CTR for $25k TOPS!! Anything more is a little too much for a performance car with econo car underpinnings. (I feel similarly with the Evo and Sti as well.)
That said, there was a market for the ITR which stickered @$26k back in 1997 so, I imagine a CTR will have a fair share of buyers willing to pay the $5k premium over standard Si (and a $4k discount under the Mugen's $30k

Honda REALLY needs to step up their game. I'm a big honda nut, loved the b-series motors (still have one in the garage). but with everyone stepping up honda really hasn't done much.
They need a 260 hp lightweight hatchback

Looks like there are a lot of different opinions. I thought 26k USD isn't that bad, that's less than a TSX I believe? In Canada, we have the CSX Type S (which is basically a JDM Civic with the American Civic Si engine, in other words, it's a Civic Si sedan with the JDM Civic body...). It's about $33-$34k CAD, which is just $2-3k less than a TSX here.
I'd definitely buy it (if I have the $$) for USD$26k. For that price, I get a limited production car that's actually very fun to drive and is very fast for its hp rating. I guess you really need to see it in action before you can understand what this car is all about.
