Supertrooper!

When you get a chance, can you photoshop my first picture on the above? like black out everything except for the headlight? gill part in the middle, foglight shrouds, and emblem?

Thanks!

btw, just past 1000 miles yesterday... I went WOT on the freeway... 4th gear is really scary fast...

1st through 2nd, the car feels like it's trying to grab the road.. maybe it's the shitty stock tires? too much torque on the front wheels?

CONGRATS JS! The Avant really looks like a beauty! Which options did you guys go for? FWD? I thought all Avants came in Quattro form.

Thanks Mark!

Yes, in the US, the Avant is only available in Quattro form. She got the Premium Plus with Sport Package and Navigation!

Your girlfriend will be happy with her car, as long as she doesn't try to race you :P

Is that the one that has the 2.0T?

And the "grabbing the road" feeling is probably torque steer. 280 lb.ft of torque in a FWD car is stupid. Stupid fun, that is

She wants to race me. Anyway, yeah its the one with the 2.0T. Audi discontinued the V6 model for the A4. Its V6 just couldn't match the numbers of its cheaper variant. So they just killed it. Great move imo. And these new A4s have 250 TQ, which is a great improvement over the B7s I think.

I thought torque steer only happens when I'm exiting the corner @ WOT.

damn, wish they didn't. I'd love to get a V6 Avant. Or an S4 Avant. Or an RS4 Avant

didn't know they were that torquey. That's pretty good, in that case I guess the V6 is useless.

I think torque steer happens whenever you apply heavy throttle in the lower gears with a FWD car with lots of torque. Basically engine sending more power to one wheel than another, thus letting the torque "steer" the car.

Yeah, this B8 engine is great... if you get the APR reflash ($599), you get around 320 tq... I think it's a great sports luxury sedan.

from a 2.0 turbo? That's crazy. Isn't that around the previous-generation's S4 level? Even the new S4's S/C'ed V6?

Talk about sleeper.

^ 2.0T engines are great at putting out big torque numbers I think...

My MS3 is rated at 280tq stock....

Over at the mazdaspeedforum.org, this guy dynoed his stock 2nd gen MS3 on a mustang dyno and got 270wtq.. so.. that's a lot in a stock form.

I have to do some more research on how to increase horsepower numbers though.. I'm still very newbish on these turbocharged 2.0 litre engines.

It's funny though. My two best friends also just bought new cars. 2009 GTI and 2010 WRX. I bought my 2010 Mazdaspeed3. My girlfriend just picked up 2010 A4 Avant.

So.. total four 2.0T cars.. should be fun huh?

I love this look except for the headlight! I can get my headlights blacked out, that should look really sharp.

If I saw that in my rearview mirror, I'd piss my pants

But definetely blackhouse your headlights instead of going with the film.

I like the blackout, and leaving the headlights/fogs normal.

Are the headlights HID's? Or just projector halogens?

Stock comes without HIDs, but I put the 6K kit on the day I got it. Cost me 60 bucks and took 30 minutes to install.

looks like you're well on your minor modding ways. I'd love to see one with a different grille (if possible) and blackhoused headlights.

But good luck keeping it clean man.

mayeb you guys talked about this in the last 10 pages but what is the potential of this motor? I haven't heard anything really about these beside the factory specs. Is there potential to go more in HP and is it safe to go more in HP?

Intake and Catback should go +25/25 easy ...

I got 275/287 out of my previous gen MS3.

That's relative but the +25hp/+32tq was definitely legit. The thing was fast as snot in a straight line if you were moving. Going fast around a turn would put you in the woods though. FWD

^ After a month of researching through the Mazdaspeedforums.org, taking this motor up to 300/300+ is not hard at all. It's pretty safe with a tune as well. (intake, TBE, inlet, AP should get us ALOT of extra hp/tq)

However, between 350-400+, I read some horror stories.

Yeah, this is why Mazda decided to put the 1st generation MS3 engine into the 2nd generation virtually untouched. They focused a lot on the handling characteristics. Now, the average slalom number for the 2nd gen MS3 is 72 mph+!

Acceleration never was an issue for the 1st MS3s, it was the handling that fell short.

I have a question.

So.. couple days ago, I met up with my friend who drives MKV GTI manual. We swapped out cars and went to drive a little for fun. He was in front of me going WOT, I followed it. And there was some black smoke coming out of my exhaust pipes for like less than .5 second. I think that's when he went WOT. Is it normal for turbocharged cars?

btw, GTIs are fun to drive... It's like a gentlemen version of my MS3.

My car just smiles like a dumbass.

Yea, thats normal in small amounts. Its oil burning off in the turbo.

If you have alot of it though, thats cause for concern.

I heard the 2007s had a real problem with oil pooling in the turbo ... Especially if the car was sitting at idle for a while.

I had forgotten about it until you said something.

You have to be careful because of the high compression.

^ Yeah, some people just do too much of modifications and end up popping their rods and crap.

They call it Zoom Zoom Boom

I'll be alright though. I'll probably just put intake, TBE(maybe), inlet, BPV, and AP. That's it.

it is weird to me that a mazda 6 speed that was awd is not that popular with the tuners then. awd and a turbo engine sounds like it would be a fun car to drive, yet you barelly ever hear anything about this car. That's why I thought that the engines were shit and had no potential. I guess I was wrong
