IS350 test drive

I was waiting on my friend at carmax so I decided to take out an IS350 for a spin. In all honesty I think the car is ugly as sin from the end of the first door back. From a distance I always confuse it for the Camry. The side mirrors also look retarted and out of place. That being said, the rest of the car is pretty nice. The interior is pretty nice, not too impressed with the design but the materials were top notch. The gauges were probably the coolest touch. I didn't like the door panel design at all, felt pretty cheap as I rested my arm against it. Seats were really comfy and the sound system was remarkable.

Let me tell you though, it pulls like a bat out of hell. I wasn't expecting that much pull from a 300hp sedan. Shifts were a little delayed in sport mode but that's expected from an auto. It really does pull rediculously hard. That being said, I didn't feel safe going more than 70mph. The steering was insanely light and I felt like I had zero control of the car at high speeds. There was also a lot of bodyroll, even yanking the wheel at 40mph made it feel as if it was going to flip over. The brakes also felt very mushy and soft for a 4 piston setup. Overall it was a pretty nice car but I wouldn't pay more than 32000 fully loaded for it.

Cliffs.
(+)
Fast as fuck accell
Nice interial materials
Great sound system
Comfortable seats

(-)
Very floaty
Mushy brakes
Extremely light steering
Zero legroom in the back

I just did all this on my blackberry while my friend is signing paperwork for a 6mt G coupe...

Are you certain it was not the ES350...'cause I have NEVER mistaken the IS in appearance for the Camry.

How a "car guy" could confuse a Camry and an IS is just beyond me.

It's like being a fan of Impressionists and not knowing a Renoir from a Monet.

They look similar from the rear, what do you want me to say? Get off your high horse I love how you put car guy in qoutes yet you're the one bitching about owning a used german car....

From dead on rear, they look pretty similar, esp from far away. Flip the headlights around on the Camry and they're almost the same as the IS

Similar stylings between the Camry and IS, but ultimately different.

I will have to agree with Jjaber06 on two things about the IS350:

1. It is pretty damn fast going from 0-100 (even if it is Auto)

2. I can't tell if I'm turning the wheel or if I'm just making circular motions with my hand in an IS when I'm making a U-turn. Seriously, the steering is a bit too light for a "sports sedan."

Jjaber, Bro, you need to get yourself the E46 M3. I've only driven an SMG version, but after driving that thing around for a few days I realized why BMWs are called "the ultimate driving machine."

No comparison between the IS and a Camry IMO. IS350 looks about a million times better....

I just got rid of my ES350 a few months ago and gotten the TLS. You can mistaken the ES350 for a camry, but definitely not the IS. I have driven the IS and it is a great car. It has alot of power and the quality of Lexus surpass the Acura. It has better navi and better rear view camera. Adaptive headlights and smart key access are awesome features. However, my two main complains are the size. Too small for a 4 door sedan and the price is way too high in its class. From this post, you would think why I gotten rid of the Lexus? It is just not as fun. The TLS is definitely an eyecatcher and there are lot of mods cheaper compare the IS.

It would be a giant paper weight after 100k so there is no real point I need one with ~40k, 05+...

I think I may have found "the one"....checking it out today or tomorrow.Only thing "wrong" with it is its not black...and non black cars are pretty :ghey: But it is 6MT with nav and the 19s...Only mod following would be tints.

Jesus Christ Sarlacc, are you going soft on me?

Sorry JJ, but if you can't tell the difference between an IS350 and a Camry, AND you still refer to tint as "tints", you have no business here.

I like the IS 350 The only thing I dont like is that the back seat is SMALL. Plus it gets a little expensive with options.

I bet this thread shows up on clublexus

...And color is a huge deciding factor for me when it comes to a car. Black on black is my number one pref, followed by gray, white and possibly a really dark blue. I wouldn't want to drive around in a flaming little red car

I don't remember telling any jokes in this thread, nor reading any.

Thanx clownzo for more genius on color selection......your insight is amazing. Your manifesto on color is about as spot on as your IS comparisons to the Camry.

Keep this train rolling!

If you haven't noticed the sacs strange obsession with people saying tints by now then you really do deserve a spot on the fail wall. You can try flipping this on me but you took the bait like a sucker

I agree that was a big mistake on Lexus. I remember C&D did a comparsion and the IS 350 got 2nd to the 330i. If it was a Manual maybe it would have won

It's not a strange obsession. The Sarlacc just hates morons who say stupid things.

...again your tints joke wasn't a really joke....Were we supposed to laugh?
