integra brake problem....

our 97 integra ls needed new brakes this weekend.

@ 95k we replaced the front rotors and pads and did a flush.
@110k we replaced the rear pads

This weekend i replaced the front pads. I noticed before the change that the passenger front rotor was heat affected. It seemed to have gotten hot at some point and continued to stay hot.

So after removing the front pads, i noticed the passenger side was more worn than the drivers.

As i was pushing the piston back into the caliper i noticed that it was froze.

Ok that's the problem, or i thought.

After replacing the passenger caliper and flushing the entire system it pulls to the left or prob the right.

When i brake hard i have to steer to the left to keep it straight. Not something i would want the wife to drive in this condition.

If i brake w/o holding onto the steering wheel it pulls to the left.

So when i come back to the house i check the brakes. the passenger side is hot as hell( i sprayed sme simple green on the rim to clean it) and it smoked.

I bled the front brakes again and still no dice.

cliffs:

replaced front pads and passenger caliper and it pulls like hell and right side is hot.

sounds like your caliper is in need of being replaced.

i put the front wheels up in the air.

With the car in park and the wheels off the ground you should be able to move the wheel/tire esp if it's in neutral.

The driver side with the old calipermoved a little and the passenger side with the old caliper didn't move, as if the brake was on.

Next i had my wife get in the car and put it into drive. The driver side wheel started to spin and the passenger side did not at all.

I was still not able to move the passenger side wheel with the left side spinning.

So, i have established that the passenger side with the new caliper does not rotate when lifted off the ground.

It sounds like a stuck brand new caliper but what else could it be??

It's the new caliper. or the replacement brake parts are the incorrect size.

that's what i was thinking about the caliper. i matched the pads and they are the correct size.

i couldn't think of anything else it could be.

The only other thing that i did was removed the caliper last night and left the brake fluid drip all night.

The one thing that makes me wonder though, is the passenger rotor was discolored(heat) before adding the new caliper.

Sounds like it's seized. I'm assuming the replacement was a rebuilt caliper. They're sometimes no good regardless of being rebuilt. Maybe give it a few days before swapping it out. I've installed new pads before, causing the rotor to get extremely hot. At first it looks like another seized caliper, but it's because the pad is too thick and it takes some time for it to wear in and begin to self-adjust.

i opened up the bleeder and tried to move the wheel and nothing. I had a hell of a time trying to get the caliper off. I tried to push the piston back into the caliper and it was difficult to do. Normally i would be able to push the piston flush in the caliper but this one didn't really budge.

So i'll exchange the caliper tomorrow and try the new one. Gotta love lifetime replacement parts.

no problem, the tab was a great help.

I picked up the new replacement caliper this morning. The sliders were greased as that wasn't the issue.

fixed it. it was the caliper. Installed the new one and we're good now. The right rear seems to be dragging a tad.
