That is so sad, I feel terrible right now. It's so important to keep kids strapped in the proper seats. It's a shame they didn't know about that before. I hope they sued the shit out of the car company for the seatbelt failing.

Video Info:
My son was killed in a car accident last year because a senile, 78 year old woman ran a red light and hit us causing us to flip into a ditch. Kyle's seatbelt came unlatched during the roll and he was ejected. His seatbelt was later examined by several experts who determined it was faulty and told me that seatbelts can and do fail, especially in roll over accidents. I had no idea that seatbelts could fail and think that this is something everyone should be made aware of. The government also needs to be more strict about making sure the people they issue licenses to are fit to drive...

Damn. That's sad. I'll be keeping Elliott in his 5 point harness for as long as I can.

Words are indeed weak expressions of sympathy and comfort when one has suffered such a grievous loss. I have two grown daughters and two small grandchildren and I still cannot imagine such a thing. May God be with you and see you through life until you reach your eternal reward.

Came across that vid when I was researching child seats since our little dude (8mo) who has outgrown his chicco infant seat which is rated for 22lbs max.

In all honesty, am completely ignorant when it comes to these things - that one was an eye opener.

Wow...it scares me to death to think of losing any of our six kids (ages 20 to 8) for any reasons... huge prayers out to this family and thanks so very much for making us all even more careful parents and defensive drivers!!!

I get dozens of children out of their parents' cars each morning, and I can only think of one (or possibly two) children who are 4 years old who are not already out of a five-point harness seat and into a booster. Just about every child of that age group is in a booster by that point, and most boosters aren't even attached to anything. I've noticed a few forward-facing childseats aren't latched to the car properly either...way too much wiggle room.

I have two Britax (Boulevard) car seats and I have to use the seat belt to secure them. The latch system, no matter how tight I have them doesn't secure the car seat as well as the seat belt. My seats are pretty soft and I have to just about sit in the seat and pull the seat belt to get the car seat to not move. I see car seats just buckled in flopping all over the place.

Sad story. If you are looking for a first time car seat I highly recommend the Chicco Keyfit 30. Good for 30lbs rear facing. We've had that for our 10 month old since he was born. He'll go into the Britax seats from his siblings once he gets older.

i came across this very video and story when researching on whether or not my oldest son (soon to be 5), was ready to ditch his carseat in favor of a booster chair. even without this video, everything pointed towards him not being ready.
