I'm sad to say I am no longer an Acura owner....

My beautiful 02 TL-S is sitting in the garage waiting for a new owner. I wanted to sell her before purchasing my new car but I came across a deal I just couldn't refuse.

I am the new owner of a 2004 Audi S4 6-spd with 13k miles. Below are some the pics the dealer took. My own pics will be coming as soon as I can.

I hear that's a rocket. I have to say, however, the TL is prettier.... But congratulations! And how much for that s-type?

Life is short. The S4 is perhaps the greatest sports sedan available in North America at the moment (short of the RS6 or E55 which are bulkier)

I had an A4 and I do miss quattro at times. But make sure you buy an extended warranty - I wouldn't want to own a European car out of warranty.

There is definitely more room in the TL.

The asking price for my Type-S is $18,500 with 67k miles and all my mods, original parts, and misc. equipment.

The car comes with its factory 4yr/50k mile warranty. Once that expires, the pre-owned warranty kicks in, 2yr/100k. The car is basically covered until the year 2010.

Audis are nice at first, specially if u are leasing a new one, one of my friend us to have an S4 thing was fast but spent most of its after hours at the dealership gettin fixed. He sold it and got a G35 coupe :-D. I drove the last model of the S4, thing was a rocket but as i said turbos are not as practical as naturally aspirated cars. May be thats the reason why audi did away with teh 2.7 biturbo motor from the last model to replace it with this 4.2 liter V8.

Let me tell you something: if you could afford that car, screw the TL-S. The S4 in Negaro Blue is one of the prettiest cars on the road, and if you could handle it all the power to you. Very good choice on your new car, good luck with it.

RMARIN2, are you in NYC? I'm in Phoenix, but going to visit family in Buffalo for Thanksgiving. I'm really close to buying an '01 TL-S w/ 39k and Navi out here, but your post has made me hesitate. Is your car a manual?

Hey Rich,
Long time no hear or see. Let me know your opinions of the S4 because I was actually looking into a new car also and the S4 was one of my top choices. I've read some reviews of the car, but I'd like to know your ideas also.
In any case, congrats on the new purchase and good luck on selling the TL-S. BTW, what dealership did you end up getting the S4?

TL was never offered with a stick, and the Type-S variant was only available in 2002-2003. Just letting ya know, so you don't get cheated by some jerkoff used car salesman.

It seems like everyone on this board who were the first to have a TL-S on this board (back in april/may 2001) is bailing out........

Good luck with the S4........and you should have no trouble selling the TL-S at that price.

Nice choice in new car....my friend has the older version with the bi-turbo he hasn't had any problems yet and he has close to 75,000 miles on it. He got his chipped and got a custom exhaust and when dyno'd he was getting about 320hp or maybe it 330hp either way...I would love to own one. when we go out if he gets drunk I get to drive it......soooooo much fun

The TL-S made it's debut in 02. It was made available however in 01. The TL-S is an automatic. Let me know if you're interested in the car. It has all the Comptech modifications installed by Park Ave Acura.

Thanks

Hey Fred long time no speak. I inquired about some of the issues regarding clutch, belts. I called several dealerships and their service managers really didn't get any customers with those problems. I went to Pennsylvania and bought the car. I figured if I was going to buy it used, I didn't want it exposed to NYC roads. Everything is flat out there and the mileage is mostly highway miles.

Am I the only one who thinks the interiors of S4s look ghetto? It seems like cheap plastic in there, I was really expecting more from such a nice (and expensive) car...

Too bad Audi engineers decided to go with the V8 in the S4. The upgrade options on the 2.7 bi-turbo surely made the older model S4 more desirable.

Congratulations on the new ride. Enjoy all 340hp!

I actually prefer a naturally aspirated V8 over a bi-turbo v6. The gearing and power distribution is so much more uniform.

This thread is being moved to automotive ...

rmarin2 -- hope you have good luck with your s4. enjoy your "new" car.

fFiend in northern Ontario had a new 2002 S4 ... riddled with problems. He got a check from Audi Canada for C$900 apologizing (ie he had to get his engine REPLACED after 6 months). Traded that lemon in for a CLK430 with AMG package. Loves his new ride.

Ever since the problems Audi had in the 1980s ... I'd never touch one.

Good luck with the German Hot Rod; it's a nice machine.
Like yourself, I had a 2002 TL Type S, which I just sold for 22K (it had 25K on the clock). I had very few reservations with the car (we all know about the tranny troubles the last generation TL had) but Acura handled them well (at least for me).
Don't worry about the supposed problems a turbo can give you: 100% reliablility is something no car marque can claim. Change the oil religiously, don't boost it ALL the time, and let it idle before shutting it down. Oh, yeah, and wave bye bye through your rear view mirror at 99% of traffic

The new S4 has a N/A V8; no turbo, or chip options on this car like the last one.

I knew about Richs move a few days ago, and wish you good luck again on the new ride. The new S4 is a hot car, especially in Nogaro Blue.

Cool looking car... I love the V8... Beautiful color...

Those rims have got to go... too blocky for the sweet lines of that S4...

I also have heard of many problems down the line with Audi ownership... (caveat emptor - buyer beware)

Good luck
Salut

$45,000 for a 2005 S4 Sedan (6 spd manual). And they're fast, don't know the quarter mile times but they're great for modding (well the old bi-turbo ones were, I imagine the newer ones are too but I'm not sure).

1/4 mile for 2000 S4 is listed as 14.1, I'd hope the 2004/2005 models are faster...

Having pride in your ride is fine and all, but dont be blind.

There is no way that the inetrior of an S4 can be called cheap in comparison to a TL-S. You may not like the Alcantara inserts in a contrasting color, but the quality of the leather & plastics used, and the fit and finish of the upper end A4's & S4's own the TL-S in every way. I suggest you actually sit in one for yourself.

So true man!! But comparing the TLS to S4 is like comparing apples to oranges. Different class, and different price range. The TLS offers the very best for its price range and class, nothing really compares. But as you move up, you can see what your paying for. The sturdiness of a german car, the re-finement of the interior, the overall build is much better.

BTW Sandeep, AWESOME AVATAR!!!!!
