I'm currently looking for an 86-93 Volvo 240 Sedan 5-Speed to daily around in as a beater since my CL-S6 is my garage queen. Apparently, Volvo did not make too many 5-Speed 240's in the US. My plan will be to throw on a roof rack, fix it up a little bit, and maybe even throw on a 120 shot just for a little fun . I will be posting volvo stuff in this thread from time to time, and will buy this car once I find it.

Screw that. A 5.0 Ford/T-5 from the same era fits very nicely. I've seen several. The ultimate sleeper. A guy I know who built one even tossed a baby seat in the back seat to complete the look.

That's part of the reason I want one. To keep me from speeding. I think they can reach around 105mph though, just takes a while

I'll find a 5-Speed. There was one for sale locally about 2 weeks ago, but it sold.

I have a thing where I like cars having their original engines. Also, I will get better gas mileage by keeping the 4 banger. Plus, my commute to school is very far.

I was just thinking how not driving my legend for a couple of weeks has helped my from driving too aggressively on the road. I like your idea but don't succumb to the temptation of speed and put NOS in there lol

Yeah I know

I will be taking the volvo to a 1/8th mile track that I like to race at frequently. I know it won't be fast at all, but I like the idea of having nos because I could use it there and then tempt from using it on regular driving. It would be my sport button more or less.

^yea, I'm still confused with the DD cars because I am pretty sure that is what the CL is and while I'm sure another car will be fun, 2 insurances and such at 19 isn't fun. Doesn't the CL get good mileage too?

You could also ask me why I garage my S2000 when it's perfectly serviceable as a very reliable daily driver, even during the winter, or daily-drive a CTS-V during the winter that many think will be a Barrett-Jackson special in 25 years. Lots of us have a car they think is special enough that they want to preserve it. The CL-S is the OP's. He also says he wants to keep from speeding, a laudable goal at any age.

I know that the CL-S isn't a special car. It's only a special car to me and only me. I plan on keeping it for a VERY long time. I also have a long commute to school and have already had my old DD (cadillac), broken into and keyed. I just want another beater to drive around in to take the risk, that's all.

I will admit, after totaling my 3G TL, I now drive a 91 Mazda B2200 as a DD/beater and I LOVE IT. I park as close as I can everywhere I go, I do not lock the doors, and it's paid for

I do miss the luxuries at times, though.

Really? How many CTSV have they sold so far?

25 years isnt that far, its like us looking at 1985 models and seeing those passing through the auction block. Only cars i can think of in 85 are ones that were limited production. Say like the Grand National/GNX that would demand a premium.

I dont follow it that much but would love to hear more on how others can think a certain car may be worth more in time.

I think it's mostly about what won't be available to us in the future. I know one of the reasons neuronbob bought the CTS-V is because there probably won't be another car like it for quite some time.

It strikes me as a car that was the result of engineer's imagination having free roam. Take a great sport/luxury sedan, then stuff in the most powerful engine you have available to you. It's appealing as well because the CTS-V seems very proud of it. It's loud, attractive, and doesn't bother with even trying to be politically correct fuel-sipper (relatively speaking). I don't think these kinds of cars will survive through 2016, when the new CAFE regulations come in.

Cars like the Supra demand a premium because it was the last truly high-performance Toyota, and of course its build potential.

I think the Grand National/GNX would be a classic for the same reasons the CTS-V hopefully will. I'd throw in the E30 M3 as well. It's not particularly powerful, but nobody at BMW tried to hide the fact that it was built solely for homologation purposes.

^ Stuffing big engines in a sedan that handles well is nothing new though. For GM it is, so i guess i can see how the CTSV would be a future gem. I am more interested in its production numbers. I dont see many on the roads...

Supra didnt get popular until later. Their sales numbers were pretty poor and the car itself was poo in terms of handling. It was nothing special until tuners got a hold of it which increased the price in the used market. It being the last Toyota sports car had little to do with it. IMO

240s don't really get good gas mileage. My uncle had a 5-speed for many years and he was getting around 20-22mpg.

I've heard that they get around 25mpg in the city. Either way, it's a lot better than what I get in my CL-S since I can't keep myself from going fast in it.

Those are one of my favorate mercedes, unfortunatly they don't sell them as a stick in the US

Good points. There were 3035 CTS-Vs produced in 2009. 2010 numbers should be known officially soon but are likely similar. 2011 will be higher because of the coupe and the Vagon. But that's another thread altogether.

The coupes are called 242. They are pretty hard to find, yes.

Or you could also look at the 850 T5R or a V70R. A rolling breadbox but 300 HP.
