If $ was a non issue, BMW M4 or Lexus RC-F?
Test drove the m4, my goodness...Good god.
To anyone who thinks the last generation M3 (although a great car) is better than the current m line, just NO. M4 is the sharpest car i've personally ever driven, and the 0-60 felt i swore was in the flat 3 or at least felt like it.
Almost opened up the check book right there and then, but had to collect myself.
Friend of mine suggested I try out the Lexus RC-f, but personally, the car is not even on my radar at the moment. Not a fan of its looks, and would definitely pass it up for a C63 AMG if not the BMW.
But as a car enthusiast at heart, i can only be open minded. Some of you might have had experience with both cars, so i'd like to know your guys experience or thoughts.

Personally, I prefer the RC-F for a few reasons:
1. Lexus reliability vs BMW reliability. Enough said.
2. I see 10 M4s for every 1 RC-F. It's nice to be different.
3. Unless you are tracking the car, you'd likely never notice a performance difference between the two. I'm sure the M4 is the better car in terms of performance, but who cares for city driving. 467hp is nothing to laugh at from the RC-F
4. Although the M4 is a very nice car, I find BMW dashboards incredibly boring and their styling never changes inside or out. At least the RC-F is like nothing else on the roads.
5. Residual value- Lexus in general seems to hold its value better than BMW. Probably goes back to point #1.
6. Everyone will think you are a douche if you drive a BMW

Caught up on some top gear yesterday and ran across the episode with these two, BMW all the way. I agree the bmw dash is blah but the Lexus looks overweight, no real style, and doesn't handle well.
Yes, it's different but having cancer would help me stand out in a group as well but I'm going to pass on that.

M4 if you're going to sell it when the warranty expires or buy an extended one.
RC-F if you're going to keep it forever.
M4 is by far the better car but the long term reliability and repair costs are going to be higher.

Sounds like you made your decision already between the BMW and Lexus. I'd take the M4 every day of the year over the Lexus, I don't care what the Japanese car is capable of.

Like most here, I have no real experience behind the wheel with either of these cars and I'm basing my choice purely off of magazine / interwebz hype.
For what it's worth, I'd take the M4 because it has 3 pedals.

M4. It's a better driver's car, period. And I want it with a manual transmission.
This was a pretty cool comparo that MT did before.

And if money was no issue, slap some Vorsteiner wheels on the M4...here's their custom of the BMW: https://acurazine.com/forums/automot...4-news-933194/
Mind you, stock is just perfectly gorgeous as well.

I've driven a few RCFs and while the power is intoxicating, you can really feel it's weight in the corners. It's certainly not a bad car, but if I wanted something to drive to the track and then back home afterwards, it would be the M4.

MT did a good breakdown of the two

Oh and all the cocks have gone over to Audi, according to Clarkson at least.

My 650 Gran Coupe does not have a boring dashboard by any stretch of the imagination so I totally disagree with #4. I'd rather have a BMW dash than a lot of other dashes. With BMW the look is austere but the functions are all there. With GM for instance, there are 4 buttons for every function (exaggerating but not far off) festooning the interior with all manner of cluttered up bullshit to break. No thanks.

Also, I'm guessing the majority of high performance car buyers are less worried about "reliability" given their budgets.
Anecdotal and likely hyperbole.
As long as I have a giant smile on my face from enjoying my car, I don't much care what some stranger thinks about me based on a snap judgment related to what car I drive.

I'd hardly say that's means for "doesn't handle well".

What I meant is that's enough said about the reliability between the two brands. Everyone knows the story.
The wife and I can afford an M4, but you better believe the reliability keeps us from buying one. The hit on depreciation is the other reason keeping us from buying one. I like knowing I have a car I never have to spend a dime on for the first 100k miles. I dunno about you, but most of the people I know who drive an M3, or similar, don't light their money on fire. Those who can burn money generally don't drive M4s.
No, not really. I see a new M3/M4 at least once a week. I NEVER see the RC-F. I've only seen one to date. Take a look around and tell me how many you see on the road.
Again, everyone always talks about track performance, but I am willing to bet that less than 5% of new M3/M4 owners actually track their cars. So in reality, if the M4 is 2 seconds faster around a race track, who cares?
For city driving you likely will NEVER notice the performance difference. As already discussed, the RC-F is no slouch in the corners.
Yes, preference. But that was one of my reasons for choosing the RC-F, which is what this whole thread is about, lol. While I can understand the styling of the RC-F, and Lexus in general these days isn't for everyone, I for one, love them. To say the RC-F is as bad as the Aztek is a bit of a stretch. Pontiac did sell a ton of them though, so somebody was buying.
I sure do. I work hard for my pennies and squandering them isn't at the top of my list of things to do. I wouldn't keep an M4 outside of warranty, so the hit I'd be taking after 4-5 years (whatever the warranty period is) would make me cry. That's a lot of money to burn.
Although I don't necessarily agree, nothing wrong with that!
