I looked on Car and Driver and the Maybach 57 goes for $311,000. Although if you could afford it, I'm sure it's not a big deal to you.

I don't know, but that's not a 70 porsche speedster... they didn't make 'em in 70 356 production stopped in 1966 IIRC...

So it's lost about 1/3 of it's value... I've lost the about the same percentage on my CLS (1/3 - 33%).

Cars aren't good investments, but it looks like the CL and Maybach have similiar deprication curves...

I lost 10K, the owner of the Maybach lost 100K... but it's still about 1/3 the original price

Hell yeah, I may go ahead and pick one up at that price. This is a steal.

expensive cars depreciate for the reason of wealthy ppl not buying used. but when you start to talking about 200k+ exotics, those either stay at equal value or appreciate. and most of the reasoning behind that is because there are waiting lists and are actually hard to get your hands on them. another reason is that the styling is not updated as frequently as nonexotics, giving the design a timeless / classic look.

Notice how it's totally useless to try and buy a 2 or 3 year old Honda Civic? With the insane resale on them (all the people with less money want one), it's better to buy them new. When I was shopping for my first car, a guy wanted $7300 CDN (~$5000 USD) for his 1993 Civic with 142000km on it!

Exotics do take a dive though unless they're really rare. For example, the NSX drops off fast for a little bit, then it plateaus at 1/2 of it's original price for a LONG time (like 8-10 years!).
