I need a $3500 beater

Civic/Corolla/CL^^

Found a civic: 95k miles/2000/all maintenance done/clean title for 2700.

What do you guys think of the sixth gen civics?
I know 8th gen corollas burn oil.

For $3500 just get the best maintained Japanese car you can find. I don't think you're going to have wildly varying choices.

Thats the plan but was just curious of any commonly known issues between the cars.

If this civic checks out today i'll most likely grab it

those civics are reliable.. but built like shitboxes as far as comfort and interior go...

my GF used to have one.. it was a mule for trips and daily driving... but the most random shit would rattle loose or break on the inside.
granted she had the LX version, but I think that's one model civic that didn't get as much hard thought into it as other models...

but if its just a beater... it will be just fine.

The gigantic purple dildo shift knob really ties the car together.

You can't find better beaters than Civic/Accord

The most common problem with Civics is that they never fucking die and then you have a hard time justifying buying a new car.

Early to mid 2000's civics are all solid, go for it. Only downside is that it comes with a timing belt not chain. Buy a 2006 or newer to get the chain and really never worry about anything going wrong.

I had a '97 5spd EX coupe, friend's wife had a '00 5spd EX coupe, wife drives a '04 LX sedan, same friend's wife totalled '00 coupe & got a '99 EX sedan.
No real issues with any of the 4. Solid cars.

Though if I were looking to get a DD right now, I'd be looking NA Miata.

How about a MKII MR2? Reliable and you can find a decent one for $3500.

I would go with a used Honda Accord LX. It's almost an EX, but in no way a DX. A fifth series is a good compromise between modern tech/ability and being inexpensive.

Civics are expensive up here

my friend bought an 03 with 178K on the odo and it cost him $4500. We then had to do front brakes ($300) and a passenger side wheel bearing ($250) and a tune-up ($100).

Me I was a little more patient and bought an 03 Subaru Legacy for $3000 with 62K on it. I did a t-belt, trans, and differential service $450 + review mirror (eletro-chromatic fluid leaked) $170, 4 wheel studs $10, and it will be getting new pistons and rings here shortly ($3K) This will also solve the head gasket problem with the motor as well.

btw a 5th gen accord is on average 18-21 years old (94-97) no way I would mess with a car that old even though my 1994 managed to last 208K miles and 21 years before it rotted out

I just bought a 1999 Acura 3.2 TL to use as a commuter. I got it with 145,000 miles on it. It is in very good shape, but I bought the maintenance agreement anyway.
