That looks great.

Let me know how it turns out on your car. I think it would look sweet on gf's avant, especially the blacked out front grill.

I heard a quote of $3800 to wrap an entire GT-R, but won't mention who might have paid that.

Theres too many variables. I used to do this for a living.

Depends what you are wrapping, what kind of material you use (& if you laminate it), plus all companies have different price structuring.

We wouldn't touch an XB, which is essentially a box, for under $1800. Curves make things hard.

For your use...I would use plastidip. Seriously. $8 a can, and completely fool proof, removable.

I was quoted the same to do my window trim, although I never had it done since I like the contrast. Seems fair to me, plus depending on the curvature of the trim, its usually more $ since some shops like use one giant piece of vinyl (unless you want a "line" or "break").

Plastip is fairly simple to use if you want a flat/matte black look. I did my Audi grille:

Before:

After:

After having it for nearly 2+ years, it holds up fairly well, other than the typical highway rock chips etc... Yours being the window trim, it should be just fine.

You also can do the shadowline trim...

http://shadowlinetrim.com/index.html

I used this to wrap my rear trim piece that sits on the bumper...

^^ Plasti-dip is a great idea as long as he takes his time taping off the car.

Honestly, chrome trim is retarded. I wish car companies would stop using it.

But then again you couldn't be like Audi and charge $500 for black *grumbles*

The titanium trim (if you buy it from the dealership) is ridiculous $$$

Okay, at least I know I am not getting ripped off.

Dude, yours came out really great.
And, for plastic dip, you can always tear it off... right?

$57k car, I guess chrome trims should be standard??
At least we both know that we are not fan of the chrome trims.

If I ever decides to use the plastic dip, I better tape the whole damn car...

Just like with any painting process, just take your time and cover your car/whatever you don't want overspray on. Many thin coats are best that way you don't have run off.

From my experience with plastidip, thick coats (1-2) = easier to peel off. Many thin coats (4+) = more difficult to remove.

You can always practice on something hard - anything really. It isn't different than using a spray can of paint.

I used to re-paint my valve cover on TSX with spray can before, so it shouldn't be too difficult to do it.

I might just do 3 coats... I want to make sure that they do come off later down the road.

I've plastidipped a ton of stuff.

I masked off a square on my bumper and pained the emblem, and all the surrounding paint. When I was done, I just peeled off what I didnt want, leaving the emblem black and the paint white.

Even if you overspray a bit, it comes off sooooo easy. You can rub it off with your finger.

Front emblem and lower valence

Frankenstein bolts

You can do things with Plastidip you can't do with vinyl.

Make sure if you go this route to get Scotchprint...it will hold up outdoors.

Di-noc will be a lot harder to wrap stuff with and wont last too long outdoors.

You are absolutely correct. The 1080 Scotchprint is the way to go. It's better suited for car applications all around.

That's what I bought and it worked out well.

I was thinking about wrapping my car in a matte color similar to the new Porsche speedster and powder coating brembos in the same color and throwing on nice black wheels but $3800 for the wrap alone is way too much

I think the pattern on the Di-Noc looks better, its not quite as glossy, but it does have more detail in the pattern.

The longevity of the Di-Noc severely decreases once its wrapped/heated around anything. Its really meant for flat surfaces, like a building or a laptop. Plus, once it adheres, it can damage whatever its on.

Scotchprint, you can literally wrap your engine cover and it will hold up. Plus, it will take half the time to wrap it (and you'll cuss less).

+1 on Plastidip. Easy to work with and a piece of cake to remove.

I've been looking for vinyl to stick under the landing pads on my roof rack, and where the fairing contacts the roof... I'm starting to use my rack a lot, sometimes carrying 2-3 bikes and it's starting to show on my paint.

Do you recommend Scotchprint? I'm looking for the most durable vinyl I can find.

Yes, I like that my 2004 TL does not have any. I'm surprised Acura put chrome trim back into the 4G TL.

If you can't see it, and you are look for durability...this will sound odd, but I'd use some black reflective. Hugely thick. Scotchprint is pretty thin stuff, your bike rack would tear it pretty quickly if it was rubbing.

What about some velcro? Use the soft side.

Its hard to understand what you are needing to cover/protect.
