How long does the dealers keep their loaner cars?
I went to a dealership to check out TSX cars. The dealer showed my some 2012 TSX models with very low miles (<4,000 miles). He claims that they are loaner cars and are retired for market. I am not a car guru. I have no way to verify what he told me.
I am wonder how long do the dealers typically keep the loaner cars. What are the criteria/reasons for them to get rid of the loaner cars. Any idea?

Around 5,000 miles sounds about right. We are just in the beginning stages of retiring a few of our loaners & moving a couple GS350s/last new MY13 IS350s into the loaner fleet at work.
Usually, they'll get rid of them due to the mileage or if they've been damaged. A lot end up finding their way to auction, tmk.

When my ex worked for Acura, they turned their loaners over at around 30k to the used car dept. When I worked for Nissan the dealers I oversaw did about the same.
My buddy at Infiniti tells me about every 5-10k or when the used car dept is running low on inventory.

From what I've seen, most lux or near lux dealers put them up for sale within 1 model year, and 10k-12k tops.

When I was at Chevrolet, we used Tahoes, Silverados & Traverses for a service rental fleet. They were titled & owned by the dealership.
IIRC, they retired from rental service under 10k miles & went onto the used car lot as CPO vehicles.

My wife's highlander was a dealer demo driven by the parts manager, that he was still driving...we picked it up with something like 15k on it. It was still leased out as a NEW car because it had never been titled before. Which gave us huge incentive because of the basically 0% apr with lease deals on that model year being offered...not to mention the huge discount on the overall price of the vehicle.
That was last Oct...the car is still running great, was an awesome deal. Been very happy. I'll be even happier if we can find another like it when the lease is up!

It depends on the dealer. When I worked for Audi they were turned over every 7-10k miles but Subaru flipped them every 4K or less. Land Rover held on to theirs for 30k+ and I'm pretty sure those all went to auction when their time was up.

i would not recommend it. the way my SA brought it around to give it to me as a loaner..i could tell it's been abused. when i got my loaner it was already 1k miles past the MM for an oil change. i put the cheapest shittiest gas i could find in it and i admit i abused it while i had it. (it was a v6...mine was an i4) i tell everyone to not buy loaner cars.
