How do you park your car at work?

I posted some pics in another thread the other day regarding my loaner TSX that I had and a member commented on the way I park near a concrete post at my office.

That got me to wondering, how do you park your car when you're at work, or home if you've got a parking garage/lot that you're in? Do you park away from everyone, park near a pole like me, or do you say "screw it, I'll risk it"?

I back my TL in, right up against a concrete post, giving me the most room that I can possibly have on the drivers side:

I typically park next to a coworker who has a new car, so he gives me plenty of room:

Let me know, I'd like to see how everyone else does it...

At home I park in the garage and at work we have a well spaced parking lot. No matter where I park I usually have at least once space open in every direction.

Designated spot , two walls on the sides so no one parks on either side .

At home, I park like you do, backing in the garage. At work, on the sidewalk with the side mirrors folded. If possible, I park a little further.

Come to think of it, yes, you do get credit for sparking this idea. So props to you for commenting on my parking abilities.

As for the fogs, they're stock. I haven't gotten around to upgrading the bulbs to match the HIDs. I guess my Instinct just captured them that way... my car is more less the same as it was the day it rolled out of the factory.

At the condo I put in for and won an end spot.

At work I do my best to park away from the ginormous SUVs driven by owners *cough* females *cough* that cant move them around. Generally, towards the back.

At home, I have a garage. At work, I don't have much choice since we moved to another building, I almost always have to park near someone else. I try to leave as many spots as I can, but the lot just isn't big enough anymore.

I park in an open lot so as far from the building as I can. For the most part no one parks near me. Sucks though when it rains.

end spots get taken really early at my work, and I don't show up early enough

Most of the lot is pretty narrow with 2 lanes and 4 rows of cars (both sides on each lane), and there is one section with only a single row of cars that leads kinda to another large parking area. I try to park there so I have no risk of anyone backing into me. The regular section is so narrow, and the spaces seem smaller, so I try not to park there unless I see an open end space.

That confused huh? It's not "brain science" as one of my coworkers so fondly said the the other day. I too park in my garage at my house when I'm at home... I wish I could say I work at home too, but that would be a horrible lie.

I also have an "assigned" spot... most people know that I only park here. I get to the office early enough to park almost where ever I want. The nice thing is that I can leave for lunch for an hour and no one takes my spot while I'm gone!

not under the trees cus the pigeons love to poop on my car
not in tight spots
which basically means usually in the back where 2/3 the lot is empty.

Funny story about that...

An engineer in my dept always parks in one corner of the lot, whether its his volvo or classic corvette. Recently our president got a new volvo and he parks a half space over and another co-worker with a porsche parks another half space over. We recently hired a new VP and he parked his F150 right next to the president. He was politely asked not to park in that area since its "reserved"

No job, but at the parking garage outside my apartment here, I just park wherever. If I want to be alone, I have to park on the 5th floor

in a corner space as close to the grass as possible, the car to my left is typically a Lotus Elise, and then a C5 Vette...

i got the best space, yet the slowest car of that lineup...

I park in a way where I minimize the chances of getting a door ding to 0% or at least lowest possible (end spots when possible and/or far far away). I freak out whenever I go somewhere, where you don't have a choice but to take whatever you can...

The spots where I work are actually pretty wide. I also get here a later than most of the other employees. They work 7 - 3 and I don't start til 8. So, I find a spot with a lot of room if I don't get an end spot.

The other thing to remember is that if most people don't commute, or bring a lot of crap with them is that most people will not have to open their passanger side door. If all the cars are pulled in, then I would park closer to the one car's passanger side and therefore leave more room for the other driver.

And after you have had a drum fall off a fork lift on to your car, a minor door ding is not as annoying.

A drum?!?!

Your comment about the commuters holds true... I didn't really think about that. However, a lot of people at my office go to lunch together, so there's always the lunchtime group that heads out.

My worst experience with a door ding was at Wal-Mart. The one near my parents house has huge spaces, and I was parked with my passenger side towards the building... when I came out I could see a ding from more than 50 feet away... I started sprinting and yelling in the parking lot. It looked like someone threw a baseball into my car door.

The odd thing is, where the ding was, it was at least a foot behind the rear bumper of the car parked next to me when I pulled it, so someone would have had to slam their cart into the side of my car to make that happen... or their massively huge ass - it is Wally World after all. It was a down-slope away from my car... no runaway carts could have done that. I was so pissed. Luckily I had some paint problems on that door with the clear coat and my dealer fixed the paint and the ding for free.

Awesome dealers FTW!

That's great! I work at a rather large company, and we have offices all over town. I used to regularly go to one of our other offices for training and meetings. The parking lot had a reserved section ("Reserved" painted on the close spots) for AVP's and higher. One of the VP's, who while only a VP had a LOT of clout, had an M5 that he always parked in a particular spot in the reserved section. He even had a cone that he would block the spot with when he left. One day when I showed up for training, another car was in his spot. He pulled in, slowed down behind the other car, and then parked somewhere else. Five minutes later, some lady came out and moved her car. I so wish I had it like that.

Yeh. A 55 gallon drum. Luckily it was empty, and it was my old car. If it were my CL or my Infiniti I would have been really pissed. I just made them give me $1K to have the door repaired.

I also noticed that most people are lazy. They will try to take everything out of the driver's side door with them as they exit the car. They would drag their asses out, carrying a large cup of coffee, a hand bag, lunch bag, and laptop bag out at the same time just so they don't have to walk around. And in the evening after work, they are lazy, tired and just want to get home. So they are less likely to open the passanger's side door, put stuff in and walk around. Just my personal observations though. I could be wrong.

And people are such fucking packrats that their trunks are full of useless bullshit that they don't use so they have to use the back seat as the trunk.

It's just amazing how many people have a complete lack of situational awareness. They just drift through life absorbed in their own drama. It's like this is their world and we just live in it.
