i got myne from mt sac which is a Junior college. What you do is look through their catalog, look under "non credit" classes, and there should be a motorcycling class that cost less than 100. You take that class and they teach u all the basics on how to operate a bike. hope that helps

assuming you pass the MSP, you will get a certificate that you bring to the DMV. this will satisfy the riding portion of your license, but you will also need to complete and pass the written portion.

Do what the gentlemen said above.

The classes here in Oregon are the same way. More or less you get a 2-3 hour class lesson the first night (along with registration). The following 2 days you get to use THEIR bikes and THEIR helmets to drive around the parking lot, etc. to pick up the basics.

Insurance is also sometimes discounted if you took a "Motorcycle Safety Course".

I took the MSF course in Illinois. It was a very fun and informative three day course. It was $25 to register online, which is refundable upon successful completion. The only problem with registering is that it is very hard to get into. You have to do it the first night that they have open registration. In Illinois, the server crashed so many times from too many people trying to register at the same time. So get in early to lock up the preferred dates and locations. The riding test is pretty easy, although quite a few people failed. The written test was a piece of cake. I took the certificate they gave me to the DMV and got my license (no riding or written test). Check your state's DMV if that applies. Good luck and ride safe.

I lived in Cali too, and i got my Motorcycle license from mt.sac too.

It's easy, go to your local college and apply their motorcycle classes. It should be total 6 hours lecture, and 6 hours riding. Lecture is nothing, riding is a little more than nothing. As long as you dont drop your bike like 10 times or let engine die whenever you start, you'll pass.

After class you'll get a certificate. Take the certificate and go to DMV take the writing test. Pass that and here is your license.

The class should take you 100-200 dollars, depends on if you r 21 or under.

It's easy to get the license, the harder part to me is after that. You learned and practiced in class with a 125 c.c. 7 year-old honda, which you can go full throttle anytime and wont feel a thing, but when I come out and ride on my 900c.c. bike, i almost throw myself off the bike. BIG THROTTLE DIFFERENCE

Pretty much what everyone else has said. I personally didn't do the MSF corse so I had to actually take the riding test and it is a pain if you do it with a large bike. I did mine on a 550 lb 750cc bike, and of course failed the first time. So I spent a few week practicing and passed fine the second time.

Take the MSF
http://www.msf-usa.org/

(2) four hour class sessions & (2) four hour riding sessions.
You will learn alot more than you think....even if you "know" how to ride already.
It will save your butt.

Once you pass the class, just go to the DMV and take the "written" test. No need for the DMV riding test...that will be waived because you passed the MSF.

Most insurance companies will give you a discount if you take the MSF, and some bike makers like BMW, Honda...etc will give you credit when you buy a bike if you take the MSF.
(They will send you a reimbursement check for your MSF costs)
