HondaCare warranty question
HondaCare warranty question
So let's say you just bought a HondaCare extended warranty on Friday (2 days ago) and want to raise hell about the price you want to pay and either renegotiate and/or completely back out.
What are my options?
I got sold (shame on me) a 6 year/100K warranty for $1950 under the explanation that "yeah - they cost more this time because the Ody Touring RES/NAVI is so expensive to fix". Well ... come to find out people are paying in the $1100-1200 range TYPICALLY at this point.
I am fuming ... I am prepared to cancel the extended warranty altogether just so this dealer's business office gets the short end of the stick. I was very happy with my salesman, but the business office guy just didn't seem trustworthy and as it turns out ... he wasn't.
Justin - any advice? What is a reasonable expectation on the above warranty for price?

Just talked to the finance manager and he continues to "scare" me about all the new equipment and that's why it's so much more for the warranty.
So for a deal done Friday he is telling me it is "too late" to change the bank paperwork as it has already been submitted. Then he proceeds to try to sell me on the lower price. Hmm - so if you can do the lower price and change the deal then why can't you cancel it altogether again? haha - busted. Man this deal is about to go sour fast in my mind. I suspect I will be up at the dealership in about 2 hours talking with the GM of the dealership on this one to get straight answers.
I should have never let him pressure me in to warranty on Friday before I did my homework - shame on me!
Any help guys? Please?

if I were the dealership, there's no way in heck you're getting your money back....you should have done your research before buying the warranty, not after the fact...
good luck Prov!

Prov dude what did you do this time???
Can you cancel the warranty? Yes you can. If you cancel the Honda Care warranty within 60 days you will receive a 100% refund. After 60 days it will be prorated. The business office at the dealership has what is called a Cancellation request form for Honda/Acura care. I can fax you a copy of the form if you want. Fill it out or just take it to the dealership and show it to them. If you still would like an extended warranty I can get you Honda care from my office. Pm or email me your fax.

OTOH, when my family bought a 4runner while ago, the finance gal told me I can cancel the extended warranty if I chose to.. but, i don't know if she was telling the truth, since i didn't see it in the papers.

EDIT: didn't see the post by justin..
Thanks for your help and as I said ... my biggest mistake was signing up for the crap in the first place. I might start another thread about "finance manager tactics" - for example showing me packages with monthly payments w/o price of ANYTHING nor the interest rates ... he was quite happy to not tell me unless I asked....that's total CRAP.
Justin - at this point with no callback since 9:30 ... my hopes of the dealer doing anything is slim to none. Which means I am going to have to let all this go through, call HondaCare myself (to get my prorated money back on this as well as the 100K warranty that was on our '03 Ody which the finance manager completely dropped the ball on), and then I might even refinance so I can get my payment down to where it should be and not pay the extra interest on this $2000.
I bet salespeople have to hate it when the finance manager is a complete crook and likely causes them a sale of the car. When he gave me the original $2200 quote I bet he could see me getting hot.
I am SOOO glad I have a better relationship with the Acura dealer around here ... cause this is a complete time black hole for me.
Does HondaCare also handle the gap insurance stuff?

It depends on the state, in IL you can sell back the warranty minus a small fee and they have to take it back.
Most warranties allow you to cancel the contract within the first 30 days with no extra fees.

I don't know about NC, but in FL, we have a 3 day period in which to cancel all or any part of the deal.
We have some good threads in the 3G forum discussing these very issues and dealer scams. The price for the 7 year/100k warranty on my new TL from the dealer was $1200. Purchased directly from the warranty company, it was $800 but did not cover Navi.
When you are turned over to the F&I (Finance and Insurance) man, that's when they can really make some money.
www.carbuyingtips.com or www.intellichoice.com has thorough explanations of these rip-offs and how to avoid them.
If it were me, I would insist on cancelling the warranty unless they came down to a price you're comfortable with.
I don't even know what gap insurance is. I don't think they're allowed to sell it in FL. They can't sell HondaCare here because they're not a licensed insurance company.
Have you picked up the car yet? Signed the final contract? If not, the deal is not done.
