Honda warranty...
Honda warranty...
is 36/36
I dropped off my 02 s2k (w/ 24k miles) yesterday for a few things, assuming it was under warranty. I got a call 15 minutes later informing me that its not... expired 1/15/05.
I never even thought about the warranty when I bought it (3 months ago), I just assumed it was the same as Acura. I can't believe a car with 24k is out of warranty.
Anyway so then I go back to the dealer to pick it up (I'm not paying $95/hr for them to reglue a couple pieces of trim)...and they start pitching the extended warranty to me. The service dept guy tells me "oh yeah, its really a good idea...these cars have tons of problems, and its extremely expensive. Your a/c compressor will probably go real soon, thats $1500, the clutch doesn't last long, that will be at least $2000...."
WTF? Yeah maybe that pitch sounds good for the extended warranty, but what about the image that projects of the car, and Honda in general? This guy really pissed me off.

if i'm not wrong, acura's warranty is 3/36 as well, isn't it?
and the clutch wouldn't be covered under warranty, unless i'm mistaken.

Its 3/50 is it not? Acura's PT warranty will be even longer for 06.

And ya that service advisor was an idiot. You don't talk about your product like that under any circumstances.

Mine was 5/50 on the cl (I think), plus another year and 12k for being certified pre-owned. Mine was put on the road in 2000, and I was getting warranty work in 2005 with 56k+ on the odo.
And yeah, I can't imagine them covering the clutch under warranty.
damn sorry to hear the beet...see that almost kinda wants to make me wanna lease an 05....have fun with it for a couple years and then give it back with no worries of having to take care of the car a couples years down the road when its out of warranty
So hey maybe you guys know... the idle on the car drops too low. If I'm in neutral and I tap the gas up to say 2,000 rpm, then release, it drops down to about 500 before it comes back to normal idle (around 1100). At 500 it shakes the car and sounds like its about to stall. Its worse with the a/c on.
Any idea why this would happen? Also, I think normal idle should be a couple hundred higher than it is. Engine sounds much better if I rest my foot on the pedal and ease it up to 12 or 1300.

seems like this is a pretty common problem. I found this on s2ki...
thoughts?
But the solution is simple! The problem is gunk in the throttle-body, and someone pointed to a product that works REALLY well. I used it last night, and it solved the problem.
The product is from a dodge dealer, called Mopar combustion chamber cleaner (I think that's it). You let the engine heat up, take the intake tube off the throttle-body, spray the whole can in while engine idles (stopping when needed to prevent engine from stalling), after can is empty stop the engine, let it sit for an hour or two, start it up letting it idle for 10 minutes or so, then drive aggressively for few miles to clean it out. (note that you'll have LOTS of smoke during this time, but that's appropriate).

by the way, s2ki site sucks balls.
5 months ago I joined, posted my first thread introducing myself with a bunch of pics of the car....got 4 replies.
An hour and a half ago I posted a thread asking for opinions on exhausts and headers, 4 views and no replies so far.

Lots of older people over there too, no ??

A guy who has been a member over there for almost 5 years, who has 4,000 posts, posted that he just bought a Ferrari Modena. An hour and a half later he has one reply.
I don't get it.

When I met up with a bunch of these people I'd say 75% were over 40.
I got 4/50 on mine. I didn't pay extra either. I have a 2004 though so maybe they changed the standard warranty.
It's been pretty hot here lately and the idle on mine is about 700. Once in a blue moon it will drop to about 500 for a second or 2 and it shakes. It never stays down there though.

Mine doesn't stay down there, just drops down once at the stop, then keeps doing it if I blip the throttle.
Which, it turns out, is probably the problem. ECU is trying to figure out what the hell is going on with the A/C running and absurd temperatures, blipping the throttle just messes it up more.

I've seen some comptechs go pretty cheap on eBay. Debating between that and the AEM.
Hey have you done any research into headers and/or exhausts? There are DC Sports ceramic headers on eBay for really cheap, but I can't find anything about them anywhere. Seems like choices are those, Mugen, and Comptech.
Get the Ricks S2k header, it offers the performance/quality of the Mugen at half the price.
The AEM v2 intake is the "best", however, it can suck water do to its location, you need to make an umbrella of sorts to prevent this.
Neither of these create much power, just make the car more driveable, ie better throttle response and low/mid end torque.

Tireguy is right on...
Ricks is the best buy but I think there is a long wait for them. I havn't checked s2ki recently because of the reasons you talked about earlier...it sucks.
I was thinking of possibly getting the spoon snorkle. I think the AEM v2 gets the best gains though...maybe 3 hp

holy hell, if a member from this site were to get a Modena there would 5 pages in 5 minutes. Honestly all the s2k drivers I see are of the older generation.
Sorry about your luck bro, good luck

That's a hellacious upgrade, from an S2000 to a 360 Modena...........

I'd say pretty much any car to a Modena is a hellacious upgrade. He still has the s2k though. Here's his brief comparison...
The S2000 and the F360 are not nearly as similar as I thought they might be. I don't want to start a huge debate, and I only have about 450 miles experience in the F360 so far, so it is hard to really compare, but the S2K is much more go-kart-ish. It is small, very pointable, has a snick-snick 6-speed, and darts from point A to point B. The 9k rpm redline is an amazing thrill and the sound is very nice in VTEC range.
The F360 still overwhelms me. It is fantastically fast, throaty, rock-solid stable, and somewhat sublime. There is more "give" in the steering (the S2K feels like if you sneeze you'll go off the road), the car is more plush, but the speed builds immediately. So far, I don't feel like the F360 is as pointable - it so far seems harder to put a wheel exactly on a line in a corner - but that may improve as I get more comfortable with it. The extra wheelbase and width makes it incredibly stable - more like my Audi than my S2K - until you look down at the speedometer. The F360 is also fairly quiet, until you put your foot in it - in which case nothing else sounds quite like it (standard exhaust on mine, no Tubi necessary).
I like both cars for different reasons and I'm glad I have the opportunity to have both.
I was able to find a gorgeous, low-mileage car and I intend to use it as much as possible. I'm also on the list for an F430, and may well upgrade when my name comes up for a build slot (12 months or so). At that point, I'll need to decide how much I like the black and whether I want the Spyder instead.
Right now, I'm pretty happy that the Ferrari is a coupe, and I'm not sure I'd have it any other way. Afterall, the S2K is always around for the open-air.
The net is that both cars give me a big smile when I'm driving!!!

Idle Air Control Valve.
My 03 TLS-Navi had the throttle body replaced twice in 15,000 miles. Seems somewhat common.
Beet, as a fellow S2k owner, I join you in saying Honda has a weak warranty relative to other mfr's. Nissan has been giving 50k on the powertrain for many years. Anyway, the good thing everyone seems to be overlooking if your car has only had light duty for three years.
As for the warranty, do a search on Google and there are a lot of used car warrantys available out there for not too much money. Your only catch may be the fact that you are already out of the 3/36.
Good luck.

I'm not too worried about it. I was disappointed at first, but I don't really expect to have many problems with the car. Its been well maintained...and if anything goes I might as well replace it with better aftermarket parts anyway

i am having the same problem with my S that has about 23k on it, I never had this problem with the F22 in my 04, but going back to the 03 my idle sucks and it has bogged to the point of almost cutting off while trying to get moving
let me know if you find a good fix please, s2k is on the slow side of things
steve, what about the idle air control valve? get it replaced, just follow the mopar ghetto instructions, or is it just time to throw another intake on the beast?
i think i might get rid of this S before winter hits, i am super disappointed with the 03 vs the 04....
beetroot, have you had this problem yet?
"Have had an interesting anonmoly in car when the car is starting to go. There is very intense (almost violent) bucking when I start off in 1st gear. This has happened at least four times.
1) It only seems to happen in 1st gear on normal starts.
2) The tach swings from about 1500 to 3000 VERY quickly. The car jerks very, very intensely until I either let off the gas completely, or give it more.
3) I've been able to isolate the problem to the following. When I give the car a fair amount of gas, it takes off very smoothly (no problems). If I just give it a hair of gas (keep in mind, I'm already rolling, not in danger of stalling, and going about 10 MPH), the jerking motion returns. I am literally thrown back and forth against the seatbelt, this isn't a subtle motion.
4) Also, it was not cold outside, and it doesn't seem to matter if the car has just been started, or has been running a while. "

and apparently the idling problems are very common
could be
1. pretensioner
2. simply tightening the throttle cable a little (or a lot)
3. spark plugs loosening or needing replacemnt (they recommend the iridium plugs)
4. map sensor (just tapping on it to clear films forming on it???)
5. idle air control vale (as steve suggested, but would possibly need to be replaced)
I am gonna go ahead and do a valve adjustment this weekend also which apparently helps a noticeable amount even with only 20k miles on the car... I had forgotten we had done one on our '04 with only 6k miles on it at an s2k meet (didn't notice any change then, but I never had a problem with it before i sold the car)
the ghetto fix is to just rev your car everytime before you are about to take off and kick it out of the LEV mode that apparently is changing the ecu mode to try to save gas, i am assuming that clearing the ecu will probably help a small amount also
