Methinks front hood clearance would be a major issue with a 2JZ-GTE swap.

Really? For that swap in a S2K? I didn't know that....I guess that's obvious.

Make it a hardtop coupe, redesign the front and rear ends, and I'd be interested in one...

What's interesting is that someone was Honda Performance Development (HPD) and not just an outside tuner. I wonder why they bothered

Wasn't it HPD that built the two turbo track Odysseys?

A 2JZ, I think, would be a bit heavy for the S2K, but the center of gravity would be lower than a Honda V6 (I6's have nice balance, and a cam very low in the block). But the new wiring harness would make this job suck, IMO

As for your earlier question, the J25 is about 40 Kg lighter, and that may make a difference. The model difference between the 25V and 32V vehicles is about 40Kg, and the only thing really different is the engine. But the block is the same. Here's the page with the stats (I know a little off topic):

J32 vs. J25

40 kg is the weight difference between the two car models, not necessarily all because of just the engine.

Different packaging, features etc.

And for the bozos who think this car will handle more 'poorly' please note that the motor appears to be behind the front axles, just like the I-4.

J series engines are VERY compact.

I bet you're right, as that is not much of a difference.

And yes, it is a very compact motor. The J series engines are very strong given how small they are. An I6 from Toyota, however is a brute.

I also believe that the J37 is lighter than the J32. My understanding is that the J35 is lighter than the J32, and the J37 is lighter than the J35. I don't remember where I read this info though, probably from Temple of VTEC.

Because they have nothing but free time. I doubt they're busy with any other Performance projects.

If I ever come across $5K and my wife's Civic engine dies, I'm putting a J-series engine in it.

I think the RDX motor with a front mount and tuned for power rather than torque would be somehow more "fitting" for the S2000. I figure 300 hp or more is doable with a good setup. The RDX motor is kind of underrated--its performance numbers add up to more like 265 hp, so 300 in an aftermarket setup is not too much of a jump.
