The Legend is far superior to the CL in every way except gas mileage and side impact safety.

There was an '88 Legend from Florida on eBay the other day with 30K original miles on it. It was PRISTINE!

WOW!! Love the Legend. But the price is too high even if it's low miles. I would get a TL.

Handling = CL is a bit lighter and less nose heavy.

The Legend has a much better ride though.

Interior features. With the exception of navigation, the Legend and CL are about the same. It has the memory seats, the heated mirrors/seats, the climate control, Bose system.

The Legend has superior interior materials such as higher quality leather and real wood.

There was a 94 6-speed LS Coupe found a few years ago in Vegas I think with 6500 original miles, and they were selling it for like 28k. That thing was immaculate.

Acura hit it's peak from 1991-1995 with the Legend. After they dropped the Legend name in North America, the Acura brand also fell off kind a bit.

That Legend is as clean as they come, but I'd still pick my CL over it.

as far as the Legend > 2nd gen CL discussion goes, I don't think I'd say the Legend is FAR superior. They both have their pros and cons, but overall, I'd say that the CL is an improvement over the Legend (styling, performance, HIDs, navi, safety). The Legend was and is a great car, especially compared with cars that were in its class. Comparing it to a CL is like comparing an Integra to an RSX. They are two different cars with different features, and were availabe in different markets with different competitors. Both cars offered great values compare to their competition and were/are both great purchases for the money.

I was also disappointed when Acura retired the Legend name and "replaced" it with other lesser models. When it was happening, to me it looked like they wanted to come out with a less expensive/lighter/smaller car and move the equivalent of the Legend upscale and at higher price point under another model name.

I recently and sadly had to "put down" my '89 Legend that was in our family since new. It needed a new front steering rack (parts over ~$1000) and the rear fenders were rusting pretty bad (an identified water drainage problem on some Legends) and I didn't want to spend more on it so I donated the car to a charity. I loved the way that car rode on the highway with a nice heavy stable feel when I zipped along over 80mph every day, with plenty of interior space and adequate power from the V6.

Amen brother! I still remember getting picked up from school one day in 92-93 Legend coupe. It was white, but I can't remember it was an auto or stick. My friend's dad was a sucessful real estate agent who retired at like 27! Must be nice.

The 4th and 5th gen Accords were some of the best. And the Legend ruled. The early to mid 90s were Honda/Acura's glory days.

I agree I like the Legend it was great for its time but I would take the CL now over the Legend. I wouldn't even characterize the Legend as superior at all, its a good car no doubt but they are different classes of cars in different years at most I would say equals.

Anyone actually look at the posted specs on the CL?
It has fog lights?
It has a locking rear differential?
It has traction control?
It has electronic stability?
It has a passenger airbag on off switch?

I don't think it has any of those.

That is pretty cool. Very useful for cars with frameless windows.

Exactly, just too much for that old of a vehicle that is not considered a "collector". That CL was a bit too much also, just used it as a comparison b/c it was near the same price.

That 94 was a pretty good pickup

As far as handling and acceleration, on the 6MT Legend 1-3 are obviously very quick. Legend has 230hp/210tq. At the same weight as CLs, based on a couple cruises of my friend and I driving and switching with both cars (pre header), it is right around as quick as a stock AT CLs. I would guess it, like the CLs, puts down around 200whp. The CLs has better handling, but the Legend is literally 2 inches lower.

You're referring to the Legend not having those things right? The Legend (LS coupe at least) has fogs, it does have traction control. I'm not sure how you seperate electronic stability and traction control but it has both to my knowledge. The TCS light flashes and cuts power just like the CL/TL. One of the first H/A to have TCS I think. As far as LRD, I wasn't aware the CL had that, let alone the Legend. The airbag off switch, don't think it has that.

EDIT: When I bought the Legend I was looking at first gen CL, Preludes, Integras, Civic Si, Older Accord coupes, etc. I decided on the Legend because there was no H/A car in that price range at the time ($4k-$8k) that was as luxurious and performed as well. Although I would have been in better financial shape if I would have just bought the CL then, driving that car for awhile was worth it.

MODS PLEASE I BEG OF YOU, WHAT WOULD BE THE HARM OF EXTENDING THE EDIT LIMIT TO 10 MINUTES? IT WOULD SAVE ALOT OF SEQUENTIAL POSTING.

The part where I said "specs on the CL" should have made it clear .

The 03 CLS 6 speed does not have traction control or electronic stability. You only got those on the automatic, however the 6 speed did get LSD.

Fog lights dissapeared after the 03, this car does not have them.

Although it does have an occupant position detection system, there is no switch to turn off the airbag.

In the case of locking rear differential, maybe I'm missing something (entirely possible), but why would a front drive car have a locking rear differential?

The reason I posted these is that the MANUAL transmission CLS has none of these, and you always accuse the dealer of not knowing his shit.

I am surprised the Legend did not have some form of LSD. For the LRD, yes exactly the point. I am dissapointed the CL only ever offered "parking lights".Half the time the dealer does not know their shit, but more importantly, are you accusing me of not knowing my shit?

I'm not going to agree to "far superior"

When comparing the legend to the CL. I love my CL - so you wouldn't expect any different, right?

I like the Legend. I think it's a great looking car on the outside and the interior is beautiful as well. The features and engine were state of the art for the time.

I haven't ridden in a Legend since 2000 (my friend owned one), but I will say that his leather (94 Legend Coupe - 6 years old) looked about as worn as my leather does now (01 CLS - 6 years old) so I'm not completely convinced the materials were that much superior.

However, I will say that you'd expect top-of-the-line materials in the Legend because the MSRP for a 95 Legend LS was $43,850 which makes it far more expensive than the CLS. MSRP for an 01 CLS: $30,300 (non-navi: for a fair comparison to the Legend).

Now, adjust for inflation and that 95 LS coupe (loaded) costs $50, 738 in 2001 dollars. Put another way - if both cars were offered the same year, and I had $57K laying around - I could have purchased 2 brand new 01 CLS' or one Legend LS coupe with a bitchin' set of 20-inch spinners. (note: I paid $28,500 for you math majors that noticed $30,300 x 2 /= $57K)

For another price comparison - I looked at the 01 BMW 330Ci, but couldn't find one (optioned-out to CLS equivalent) for less than $40K. The 95 Legend in 2001 dollars would be $10K more than the BMW - which have always been ludicrously overpriced! So I can't buy the argument that it was a good buy for the time either.

Again - to the Legend fans out there - I'm not bad mouthing the car. I like the Legend. I simply disagree with those who want to put down the CL with these "why can't you be more like your brother?" comparisons of two cars that really don't line-up well enough to be compared.
