Just do whatever you like. It's not going to matter.

1st gear or 10th gear, it DOES NOT matter. What gear its in has NO effect on damage. If the motor would be hurt by doing it the manufacturer wouldnt let you use it.

And, yes you can hit vtec past 3rd. I use it in 4th and sometimes 5th

I'm not sure I want to know what speed I'd be going to hit vtec in 5th...
I'm around 75-80 after topping out in 2nd...

So I've hit vtech, I think once in 4th, but it was very weak not noticeable at all. My car has like no power up there at that speed (120) Should I still feel the car pulling or are these cars just weak. 2000 tl, stock.
I know our cars reach a top speed of around 149 or something like that, I kinda doubt my car would ever reach there, but I'm probably never gonna find out.
edit: I dont think my car is in perfect shape, thats probably why.

Is this a real question?
In my S2000, once the engine is fully warmed up, I hit VTEC in 1st gear on every freeway ramp I can do it safely on. Its engine is especially made to handle this type of use, so I have no worries. Even in a street Honda/Acura, these engines are so overengineered that they can probably handle this on a daily basis.
The only thing you have to worry about is your gas mileage.

1st-3rd its pretty short.
if you can keep it engaged (or close to it) when shifting the earlier gears.. it actually makes a noticeable difference in times. (though you don't have much control in the auto's)
and my 99' TL has been upwards of 140 mph... so the 2000 can def. get there if maintained...
