His name was Jack

Drove 65 miles to look at a pre-owned C Class priced at $21,000.00 and arrived a few minutes after we closed. Said he would offer $18,200.00 OTD. When I informed him this would not be possible he asked me what was possible. When I asked him if he wanted to test drive the car he was considering to buy he got angry and said that because I wasn't immediately giving him his OTD "best price" I was keeping him here late. This was 20 minutes after we closed. When I gave him the price which was about $23,000.00 OTD he got this huffy look and stormed out.

His real name actually was "Jack" which, to be honest, I thought fit him rather well.

you gotta wonder what he was planning on doing with that car if he was demanding the OTD price without even a test drive

Ha ha. I told him in over 7 years of doing this I had never sold a customer a used car which they didn't want to drive first. He told me he didn't care what I knew or didn't know.

But I was right!

What's up with the new members posting stupid shit lately?

Seems odd that the guy wouldn't want to take a test drive or have the car inspected.

That's what the late night car stroker does! And by all accounts he's pretty good at it, too.

He probably just wanted something with the pointy star on the grille.

Many clients I work with are becoming increasingly unreasonable, angry and insane. I think there must be something in the water.

Maybe he didn't see the point in test driving it if he wasn't going to be able to get it for the price he wanted to pay (ie. that's all he could afford) . Still, that's no reason to be a jackass.

Ah, what I call the "me first" mentality. It's sweeping the world and causing people to act irrationally and only think of themselves. Huge sense of entitlement. I started noticing it about 5 years ago, like someone flipped a switch. Very strange.

Could not agree more. And it will be the demise of the Once Great USA.

So your a car salesman? Its funny that he got angry and not you. In my experience, its always the salesman that seem/pretend/are offended. He had no right to be angry, especially the way he "negotiated" with his OTD.

I don't think either party should ever get upset with car buying, both should work out a deal and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

One dealerships salesman that my dad has bought 2 cars from previously, told my dad to get out of there because he was coming back too many times without buying something.

That's a good description. The thing is that the people I deal with are usually fairly high-level professionals and officials. Not the kind of people we want acting unhinged. On a related note, a good friend and brilliant professor had switched from teaching to an administrative position, which surprised me. When I asked him about it, he summed it up by saying, while a previous group may have been called the "me" generation, the current one seems to be "The Me Generation, and F- You." He'd had enough.

Anyway, for something more fun. CL6, how does a C-class drive, anyway?
