GX470 or QX56?

im looking to get a new SUV... i think it would be useful in all the snow that i get up in school as well as when im moving in and out of my apartment for various reasons.

I test drove GX470, QX56, FX35, MDX, and Escalade. The GX and QX impressed me the most, although i do admit that the QX impressed me the most - however the fuel economy and the overall size and weight of the vehicle kinda made me hesitate. MDX for the money (cheapest by far, considering the options that i want) is the best deal but where i live in Northern NJ/NYC EVERYONE and their aunt has a goddamn MDX.

What would you guys get, the lexus or the infiniti? and no, im not trading in my cl for this... the only car i can see myself trading in my cl for is the next gen cl or the 350z

thanks for your opinions in advance.

I like the gx470; mostly because it's ultra reliable and it's 4runner underpinnings keep it real.

thats a chunk of change for someone living in an apartment though. i'd put that $ into a house if i were you.

I would get the QX just because of the factor... a friend has a white one and damn, it's hot.

I'd get the QX56 preferably in black (that is if you can keep it clean), those things are pretty quick 0-60 is around 6.8s, that's pretty good for a big SUV. But like you said they chug gas like no other and it requires premium. MDX or FX35 would be also good choices and there both most likely a lot better MPG then the QX or GX.

Yeah, also I found it odd that the GX doesn't have HIDs, not even as an option.

Really? Didn't know that, maybe its for the same reason the MDX doesnt have them....then again the RX330 has them

im not planning on moving into a house anytime soon, believe me. if anything i would buy an apartment in nyc after i graduate from school... the ultimate bachelor pad plus i have no idea where im going to end up for medical school, so buying a house at this point especially with property values at crack prices would be a bad investment (also who wants to pay property taxes... not me i pay enough tax as it is ) true you meant i should be saving for a house, but i got that planned out somewhat, i have a good amount invested in asian markets for my future in general (business, marriage, house, etc).

i didn't test drive the X5 yet, i think i'll drop by park avenue and go for a test drive. i agree that the QX56 looks really nice, i think if i get one i would get it in white. the one i test drove was white and it looked super clean... standard navi was also a plus

the thing that annoys be a bit about the Lex is that it only has i think 270hp... for a v8 that size its a little disappointing, although it does make it up for more than enough torque.

right now im slightly more inclined towards the QX, but its nothing definite

do you think the navigator is worth a test drive?

thanks

rez

its under $400 to upgrade stock lights to HID so thats not a big issue, one of the first mods i'll be doing if i get the GX... but yea i thought maybe it was just the GX i test drove. i thought it was an option

Good thinking with the apartment, and you should go to Columbia and I wouldnt consider buying an american SUV. So I say to the Cadi and Navigator.

Yo rez....I forgot to mention that you should probably look at a Range Rover Sport. I've been looking at them and I like them. But I dont it would be wise to have a huge ass SUV in the city if you're moving here.

hell if im moving to NYC i would def get an apt with a parking garage! and i would probably leave my SUV at my parents crib and drive around a goddamn cooper-S, although i hate that car, its a dman nice car to have in the city (find parking anywhere). or i would get a bike, a nice harley

You know i never really liked the range rover... i dont what it is, i never really got into it... maybe its because i never gave it a chance and drove one so i guess i'll should really test drive one before i pass judgment on it.

and on columbia, i did an internship at memorial sloan kettering last year and i saw all those med students at NY presbyterian, i would love to go to columbia medical school or even cornell, but we'll see (i take MCAT once more next year... must get 40..)

thanks for your help

oh yea , i dont like domestic cars much either but i like the way the navi looks. is it really that unreliable?

This is exactly what I do, I leave my nice car at my parents house, and I park my beater in the parking complex of my apartment building. Its the problem of having to manuever the SUV and park it in the city that would give you the most trouble, not to mention the wreckless drivers and the bad roads that will fuck it all up.

Really ? The Range Rover is like the Royles Royce of SUV's and it can actually do off road stuff, but I wouldnt take my $70,000 investment off roading.

I personally think the QX56 is ugly and the GX470 is WAY overpriced. But out of the two, if I was forced to choose, I would go with the GX470. That choice was only based on that I believe Lexus is the much better brand/car than Infiniti.

GET THE NEW M5 INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!11111111

Why the fuck is everyone suggesting shit out of the blue? Two options, GX or QX. I'd hit the Lexus; reliability & service.

GX all the way man. Nissan quality is not up to par with toyota, plus the QX is a freaking land yacht.

when the audi suv come out?

do you like the toureg?

as listed above, i like the QX by far the most.

the GX is somewhat of a soccermom's car. it also looks very narrow and tall from the rear, which always bothered me.

GX470 all day.........you can buy right now a $56,500 2005 Sport for under $50k (heavy discounts).

The QX56 is a piece of shit, the door handles are big enough to beat someone with and the interior borders on nasty.

I personally wouldn't get either, but its your wallet.

I always seem to lean more towards performance than luxury so I'd go with the QX56. If the QX is anything like the Armada, it'll smoke the GX in stoplight sprints.

But the QX/Armada is really a monster sized truck. If you need the room then only domestics compare.

I know someone with a QX and it's far from a POS, yes the interior isn't all that great but it makes up in other areas. Plus, the 5.6L V8 in the QX is 100x better then that puny ass underpowered that barely passes for a V8 in the GX.

If you haven't looked at this yet, you might want to. I thought it was much better overall than the GX470 and it looks 200X better than the QX.

I've bought many first model year cars and most of them were good, but by far the worst one I've had was a first model year '98 CLK320, it was the biggest POS I've ever come across. But two years later I traded it in for a new '00 CLK430 and has been relatively trouble free till this day.

I remember the 98's having lots of problems. The old 430 is one of my favorite cars ever. Absolutely gorgeous in black.
