Got rid of the G....
Well, the car bug bit me again. Been looking for the past couple weeks and drove pretty much everything from Hyundai's to BMW. Liked the 335, loved the S5, dug the RDX (what a cool SUV/Crossover) and even the new Sante Fe was really nice.
But, then I drove this....bought it 2 days later. Car is filthy right now (waiting for the weather to clear up to clean it up and take some proper pics)

Ugh. I hate you. I've been wanting to get one of those. Is that the base Cayman or the Cayman S? Is it new or CPO? Why didn't you get the color crest in the wheels? :P

Then the better half said she wanted to trade my car so she could get something (hence the Sante Fe and the RDX) and I would take her FX for a few months till it's lease ran out. She liked the Santa Fe, but loved the RDX. However, she wasn't sure that was really what she wanted so we didn't end up with that either.
I am an impatient person and I wanted somthing now so I just kept driving things till I found something that fit. Saw a new Mercedes C class on the road and thought, that would be nice too. Drove it, liked it but the seats weren't all that comfy. Then, on the way back from that dealership, I decided to go back to Audi and see if they still had an S5 to try out again. Unfortunately they didn't have one so I went over to the Porsche side to check things out. Always loved Porsche's ever since I had my 77' 924 and figured what the heck.
Drove a Boxster, Boxster S, Cayman, and Cayman S. Both Boxsters were nice, but there was just something about it that didn't sit right. I liked the power of the Cayman S, with the Sport Chorno package (increased throttle response, which you can definately feel) but I didn't think it was worth the extra $6-7K it would have cost. So I drove the base Cayman again and really enjoyed it. Just enough power for me and the price was right. So, I asked the better half how she felt and she said to get it since I always wanted another one. Great girl right? So, after some negotiations, I got the deal I wanted and took the car home. Been smiling ever since
Cliff notes: Drove a bunch of cars, ended up buying a Cayman.
Not to threadjack too much, but my nitpicks about the Cayman are:
1. Exterior lines are somewhat feminine - prefer a few sharper edges.
2. Interior is a tad mundane.
3. Needs a bit more power to justify the price.
But the driving dynamics are superb, makes you feel like a hero.

for the price of 45-55k this is not bad at all, imo

And you hit the nail right on the head with the last statement. The driving dynamics are incredible. That's what really sold me on the car. On the test drive, there were a few sharp sweeping turns and the car was just rock solid. I can tell you that the car does make you feel like you are a better driver than you actually are. I feel like a little kid when I go through a nice turn and it just stays on the line I put it on. Very difficult to upset this car.
Great choice. I have an 07 Cayman as well and it is an incredible car to drive and own. It is just fast enough to keep me from getting in too much trouble. I have 19 inch Carrera rims and most people mistake it for a 911 which is too funny to me.

Clarkson hates all things Porsche. He called the Cayman a "Cockster" and continually refers to the 911 as a bug. What I think is funny is the fact that he owns a Gallardo, which is made by Audi, who is owned by VW who Porsche has I believe a 20% stake in.

you are my hero. that is exactly what i would buy. the wife and i have been looking at 911's for some time down the road, but these remind me of my uncles' boxster
