Gone very far to the Dark Side - Cobra Kit
#121
Big local operation is Whitby Motor Cars. Will have the body painted there but he also builds turnkey FFR cars. Very big shop covers two full size by side industrial buildings in Greensboro NC. With over 10K kits produced from Mk-I through Mk-IV there has to be a number of shops like Whitby around the country.
Web site is poor but gives an idea of what is available.

Was something I had been meaning to do for a long time & never quite got around to it. Really am enjoying putting it together.

Now its really really beefy.
Got the rear disk brake adaptor plates & brakes on & finished the cockpit back wiring harness, Tires look to clear everything, big relief. Still have to fit the emergency hand brake system.
Its doing an imitation monsoon here so I can't push it out to turn it around. Need to get the front pointing toward the door to have enough room drop the engine in. Hope to get my son-in-laws in over the weekend to help out.
Also have lined up the painting & will be bringing the body down to Whitby's in Greensboro in a few weeks.

Finished placing switches & instruments in the dash. The two bare switches will get the same bezels as the other switches. The hazard & Heat bezels are backordered. They are NOS & reproduction parts from a 67 Bronco.
Radio, vent pulls, vent fan switches, USB ports & a pair of 5" speakers will go it a sheet metal unit I am building to go between the bottom of the dash & the top of the transmission tunnel.
It will be covered with the same material as the dash along with the top of the trans tunnel.
Son in laws are here with my daughters for Mothers Day; will see if we can getaway with dropping the engine in tomorrow morning.

I missed this thread. I've now read through the entire thread in spurts during the day today.
Nice job so far and do keep us posted.
You must take a video of the first key turn.

Awesome build Love the Factory Five kits. Looks like you're making great progress, considering what's involved. A few years back I was considering selling my vette for one of their GTM kits to build, had my daughter, so don't have as much time anymore. I took my vette completely apart and really enjoyed rebuilding it, so would love to do a kit one day. That's going to be one fine ride when you are finished! Excellent choices that you have made on the options (engine/ trans/paint/etc.).

No real visuals this week. Spent a lot of time bending & installing brake lines. Car has twin systems with separate master cylinders one for the front & the second for the rear so you get to do some of the work twice. Also finished the rear wiring layout & permanently installed the harnesses to the chassis. Tail lights, stop lights, blinkers, fuel tank power & fuel level sender.
Drilled a few hundred holes to mount the upper, lower trunk floors & the upper interior sides. Touched up all the panels & will lock them down when I finish with the fuel tank.

Got quite a bit done this week & some of it is actually visible.
Finished the brake lines, the fuel lines, inline fuel filter & Hi Capacity 225GPH electric fuel pump & set the lower trunk floor + side panels in place. Trimmed the rear mounting bosses off the TKO & filled it with trans oil.
Used the Quick Jack mounting mod the guys suggested before setting in the fuel tank.
Once I install the handbrake assembly, need to put it together , I can finish the trunk with the upper section & battery mount. That will finish the rear end from the back of the cockpit to the rear bumpers (Quick Jacks)

This is so cool. Thanks for sharing! I love you're using a Coyote - that motor is Ford's best engine in probably 20 years.
swoosh - it makes me want to build one as well. My friend and I have thought about doing a Factory Five 818. Stinks that people still ask near 20K for an 04 STI...crazy mofos.

So far just the ride back from the performance Center & a few "honey do" runs. Car is responsive & comfortable. Its equipped with the MPPK/MPE – 342HP, M-Sport brakes & the computerized real time shock absorber suspension system. Was going to order fresh get flats but the new RFT's are orders of magnitude better that the ones my 335 came with so will keep them on.
Way more tech than the old one all generally better. Love the HUD. The nav can display a Google street view of your destination which is nice for locating a place that is all new to you.
Performance wise its a winner. BMWPCD has you do the program in one of their cars that matches what you bought. My run group was the 435, 2X650’s & an M228. Track runs are follow the leader no passing.
Was fortunate enough to be first on line behind the instructor. M228 next the the two 650's. After some follow the leader laps the instructor pulls off & leaves you to yourself but with 2 way radio comms.
Took 2.5 laps to come up on the trailing 650. Expected to go in to time-out but he called the 650 into the pits instead. Got the next one in a further lap & had pulled 3/4 of a lap infront of the M228 which I expected to be the quickest car out there, younger mid 30's driver on a more technical course than top speed course.
Son in law who has never driven on a track was also able to lap one of the slower 650's. Really a great deal & a freeB for anyone who buys a car & can get to SC for the delivery. My run group had a couple from CA & another from MA.
Highlight of the day was some ride along hot laps driven by a BMW team driver in a prepared M5 @ 575HP. Quickly reminds you of the difference between how good you think you are & how good you really are.
