Going Turbo

So a few months back (August 14, 2009) I had posted a thread about me trading in the 2009 Honda Accord for a 2009 Honda Civic Si. Well after about a month I had traded my Si to my brother and in return received his black 2008 Jetta 2.0T DSG.

The cars are equally as fast, but I get the advantage of lower car payments. I have been saving up and a spring and shock kit is in the works.

So far I haven't done much except for painting the chrome front grill both lower, upper and lower sides black, and leaving the emblem chrome. Also I did a custom eye lid setup.

Here is what she looks like before the mods:

Now with a little black paint:

I must say these cars both rival each other in terms of performance. The Si offers slightly better steering and is a smooth ride. The sensation of Vtec engagement is awesome. I will say the torque on the 2.0T motor just carries from 2000rpm til redline and it feels great.

I am enjoying the car very much sometimes I miss the Si, but the Jetta is less expensive and still very fun to drive.

I am a VW lover so I love the new jetta but I am not feeling the black front. I personally would not have painted it. The chrome gives it a little contrast and breaks all the blackness. I can't really tell in detail tho because the picture is from far away. post some closeups cuz I wanna see those eyebrows too. Get a chip and a tune and you will love it even more

For now it's only going to get a lowered suspension, its the first priority because the wheel gap is as about as large as my four fingers. I will post more pictures, but the black grill has received compliments, and the VW emblem helps break it up a bit. I had painted it originally and removed the paint because it helps break things up enough.

yea I noticed that too, that's a nice touch. I think those always have to be color matched cuz orange just sticks out to much and doesn't make it look clean.
and suspension has to be the first thing I agree. Those gaps are stupid huge haha I bet you can't even post your car on VWvortex haha on that site, slammage is mandatory for posting

Yeah, I can see where you are coming from on the eyelids, the only real reason I did that was to try to make the car look a little less feminine with an aggressive headlight setup. It's a hit or miss, some people dislike it and others like it.

As far as the grill its all about preference, I do agree the chrome looks good I think I may try removing the chrome from the middle and leaving the two lower side chrome strips black and see how that works out.

If you have the FSI, you have the older engine.
TSI is the newer one. Engines were changed mid 2008 from FSI to TSI.

Easy check...pop the hood...read the engine cover...and you will know.

Sorry man but I'm not feeling those headlights. The blacked out grille doesn't look bad though, but I'm sure better pics would help.

Blackout is nice, but don't like the eyelids. Nevertheless it's your car, as long as you're happy

In my defense these pictures make it look really bad, I'll take them off and shoot some more pics using the same camera so we can do a side by side comparison.

Not a fan of the dechroming. The execution of the 'eyelids' makes the car look cheap IMO.

I am going to go ahead and remove some of the paint on the grill and snap some more pics since it's nice out, I'll report back in about two to three hours. I will also remove the eye lids completely and hopefully I'll get some positive feed back.

Have you ever thought about blackhousing the headlights? In other words opening them up and painting the chrome insides black? I think that would give you the look you were going for without looking cheap and "homemade".

Don't go modifying your car to suit others. If you like the look then by all means keep it. All were doing is giving our thoughts/opinions/, you shouldn't change your car to please us. Do you!

Yeah I have, however I like the contrast of the current headlight housing, it looks like a "cleared" headlight, I think it looks nice. I just think the blacked out housing will blend in too much!
