Going to the Ford dealership today.
I'm a realtor in AZ and recently I've started to focus on land sales and ranch properties. The majority of the roads around these properties are rough dirt roads that my Acura doesn't like. So I'm looking to get a truck.
Right now I'm looking at the 06 F-150 Supercrew FX4 some thing along these lines:
(click on window sticker)

At this time Ford has this "Keep it simple plan" which looks good but I was wondering what everyone else thought about these discount plans. Does anyone know if these prices are still negotiable or is pay the sticker price add tax/title and licensing?
I was also thinking about the GMC Denali truck:

More money but very nice.
What do you all think?

Have you looked at the Lincoln Mark LT? It's a more polished F-150 with the nicest interior of any truck out there and they're giving good rebates on them.

Ford makes a fine truck. In fact, as I recall, their F150 is the most sold vehicle (as in car or truck) in the world.
I have a little 2001 Ford Ranger Pickup and I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. It's been more reliable than my '04 TL. But then again, so was my 1988 Mustang LX 302 CD.. and my 1996 Ford Contour ties my TL for reliability.

How about a Ford F-150 King Ranch? The interior is very very similar to that Lincoln. In fact I like the King Ranch better than the Lincoln. But that's just me.

F-150 FX4 supercrew w/leather is around 36k
F-150 King Ranch 4X4 is around 39k
Lincoln Mark LT 4X4 is around 43k
GMC Sierra Denali 4X4 crewcab is around 43k
all of these prices were with no options except for 4X4. For the F150 FX4, the supercrew cab and leather were the only options.
I'd go with the F150 King Ranch, its more luxurious than the FX4 and cheaper than the Mark LT

You can get the Mark LT for almost the same price as the King Ranch F150 cause dealers are discounting thousands off the Mark LT's. Also with Lincoln, their dealers offer FAR superior service then Ford dealers, you get a longer warranty with the Lincoln that also have loaner cars available, and you get free maintenance for a year.

IMHO, the interiors in GM trucks now are little changed from GM trucks of the 90s.

Call me crazy, but might I suggest an Audi Allroad? I know it is far from a pickup truck, but if you want a car still and want the "off road" capability...
But between the trucks, I'd say go with the F150 King Ranch or the Lincoln. As a realtor, I think it would be smart to go with something somewhat luxurious. Maybe look into a pre-owned Escalade EXT
My vote goes to the Audi, however...

If you're going to be driving clients around I'd suggest a Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Commander, or a King Ranch F150 or F150 Lariat.
If you just want a decent truck that won't give you trouble get a Toyota Tundra.

Ford makes a damn good truck. I am on my second one. My first was a 1998 F150 Supercab 4x4 stepside. I had it 3 years and put 58,000 miles on it before some asswipe pulled out in front of me and totaled it. It stickered for a little over $32K, and I paid a little over $27k. The insurance company wrote me a check for $24k when it was totaled. That is not too bad in the depreciation department if you ask me.
After I got the insurance check, I purchased a 2001 F150 Supercrew 4x4 Lariat with all the bells and whistles. I have now put 115,000 miles on her, and all that I have had to do is the required maint, and change the tires. She still runs and looks like she is brand new. It will seat 5 comfortably, and I take clients and buyers out in it all of the time.
I know in the Dallas area, many of the dealerships are offering huge discounts on the 2005's (10-11k). The Keep it simple plan on the 2006's is also a really good price. It is right at xplan pricing. There is also a $3500 cash back incentive going on right now on 2006's.

Got da Internet Goin Nutz
King Ranch is nicer than the Mark LT hands down. But I do agree with the Lincoln service plan comments. Don't expect Acura type service, as Lincoln dealerships are often Lincoln/Mercury dealership and the Mercury side gets treated like Ford owners hence the Lincoln side often suffers.
I'll always suggest going slightly used to let someone else eat the depreciation. It should be easy to find used ones (except the new Lincoln) with the high gas prices.

The REAL crash test!
Regarding the crash testing... Well, I personally crash tested one. Before the CL I had a 2001 F-150 4X4 XLT 5.4. GREAT TRUCK! If I had been in anything else on the night of Oct. 23rd 2004, I would not be here today.
At 3:00am I was driving home on a strech of highway I know all too well. So well aparently I fell asleep at the wheel at full speed. My cruise was set at approx. 78-79mph and I crashed into a gaurd rail. I hit the gaurd rail almost head on. When I hit, I awoke immeditaly to say the least. I walked away from this with nothing but airbag abrasions on my knuckles. Like I said, Ford saved my life that night and I would not hesitate to put my life in their hands again. I don't care what any crash test says!
Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't hit someone else or I may have killed them. That, and due to the fuel costs is why I did not give in to buying another one. I didn't want to add to the danger of another BIG ASS truck or SUV on the road so I went back to a car.
Here's the result of the crash...
The hit broke the left front wheel and assembly clean off, twisted the frame, and twisted the cowl (sp?). No pics of it but the frame twisted to much at the time of impact that the bed came up and smashed into the back of the cab, then relaxed it self in its previous position. And no, the drivers door did not close after this.
For those questioning Ford's service, HA! I have never been treated better ANYWHERE and I've had 5 of them out of a total of 15 or 16 cars.
Safe truck, I don't care what anyone says!

^^^Wow, you're lucky you didn't get hurt.
I guess it depends on your local Ford dealer, but my Ford dealer (Tamiami Ford) sucks ass, they are horrible from sales to service.

I too owe my life to a Ford Truck. As I mentioned above, I was involved in an accident in my 1998 F150 that was extremely serious. I was driving northbound in the middle lane of a six lane road (3 on each side). The road was separated by a 50 ft wide median. I had a Nissan 240 SX about one car length in front of me on my right. We were traveling approx 55 miles an hour, and just coming up to an underpass. There were no lights at this underpass, just stop signs for the traffic that wanted to cross the hwy. Just as we got under the pass, a 1997 Ford Contour full of 4 college kids on spring break decided to not look our direction before they tried to cross our side of the hwy. Bad choice.
The 240 SX clipped the drivers rear quarter panel, and immediately spun the Contour into a 180. Unfortunately for the passenger, that put him directly in front of my truck, and I did not even have time to hit the brakes. I T-boned the Contour directly between the passengers front and rear door, and if it was not for the A pillar on that car hitting directly in the center of my front bumper, at least one of the passenger side kids would have surely died. As it was, the impact was so solid, that I stopped almost instantly, and knocked the Contour approx 200 ft before it came to rest in a ditch. It had flown across the median, and slid across all three lanes of the Southbound traffic.
I was the only person that was able to walk away from the accident. All 5 of the others were taken away by ambulance. The truck was a mangled mess up front, and I was saved by the airbags and seat belt. The driver of the 240 SX was not as lucky, as she had multiple fractures. The kids in the Contour all suffered serious injuries, and each recovered fully except the driver. As I T-boned the passenger side, the driver's head busted out the drivers side front window, and the last that I heard, he had never fully recovered from his head injury.
Yea, the gas mileage sucks on my current F150, but it is a price that I am willing to pay for the peace of mind that I get while driving my truck. I feel very safe in it.
