Car Talk is valuable for everyone IMO

Its the only place that has a group of people who have similar backgrounds that have bought many other brand of cars in the past decade, outside of Acuras.

Its refreshing coming here to ask advice for which SUV to buy and the answers not all being the manufacture the forum is based on. How boring would that be.

For those who actually had constructive things to say, I thought about the GTI but VW reliability makes me wary. The Subaru WRX is a pretty sweet ride but even with my perfect driving record (never had a ticket in 10 years), the insurance rates would be utterly astronomical.

 

I have been on many forums in the past, this one not being anywhere near my first. Car Talk here is among the best because of the many reasons mentioned. Rampant fanboyism is not a good thing, no matter what make it is for. There is no way you could make a thread like this in the Acura model-specific forums because it is obvious how most of the answers would be skewed.

I don't see this as a thread derail, really... we can't give much advice until the OP chimes in with more.

 

If you're >25 and haven't had any tickets, your rates should be considerably lower than the average. You might be surprised... just contact your agent and see how much full coverage would be on one.

My friend is of the same mindset, he plans to keep his GTI for a while. It's only a couple of years old or so, and no major problems have popped up so far. It's a very polished car, relaxing yet fun to drive. I too am weary of a German car out of warranty... but maybe you can get an extended warranty. VW seems to have improved drastically compared to their cars of the '90s and early '00s, which I'd avoid like AIDS.

It seems like you feel that Acura is a superior brand and you're very happy to own your ILX. That's great. It's nothing special really, so hop off your high horse.

 

Go to ANY sizeable make/model specific forum, they'll have a similar place for general car talk that's usually very active. So yes, you're free to go to VWVortex, Audizine, wherever and share your opinion on any car you like in the right section.

Andrew, what about a regular Golf/Jetta, or Impreza? Save on insurance, and if you want more fun/performance, you can use the purchase savings on aftermarket parts. Downside is of course that'd affect the warranty.

As mentioned, this is CAR TALK...its genderless, ambiguous, and it does matter that many of us have been on here as members for as long as we have. Its a testament to the group of people we choose to converse with about our hobby and passion, and the fact we can all still come together and get along while now owning different make and models says something about this site and the people on it.

I have not tried the Mazda6 myself but simply based on stats it's worth checking out. If you're trying something that size, I strongly recommend the Accord Sport. THAT was a fun ride with enough room for four drunk chicks after a night on the town. (LOL at your S2000 comment! Sigh....to be single again.....)

Yeah I'm the opposite and have tried the 6 and not the sport, but all the reviews head to head say those are the top 2 regardless who else may be considered. Typically the 6 wins from an unbiased stand point but for Honda/Acura "fans" it's more of an at home feel and may be the deciding factor. Was next to an all black one yesterday with tinted windows and the thing was stunning. Had I not recognized it, it looks, at a glance, like a much more premium car. As does the 6. Great problems to have in todays market, which great car should I get lol

Thanks for the Ford tips, guys. Ford is the only domestic brand I would buy and it's funny you should mention it because my local dealer has a tendency to leave cars unlocked on the lot after hours and one of those was a Fiesta ST. Those seats are incredible! My friend put it best, "This must be what Ken Block feels like."

The OP should buy an Acura because he used to own one and would probably enjoy one again. An RL around the same he previously owned (I assume this by the username) or maybe a ua5. That is what I would really want. I enjoy my brand new car but I really miss having something older than I felt more empowered to work on. I don't want to touch my pretty stock ilx. A 2nd gen tl type s would be old enough to empower me to do the work I want but man oh man would it be a fun platform to start from. After following 3.6 j series builds those engines can be beasts and on such a sexy chassis. Damn. I love those cars.

 

Feel free to suggest an Acura product, but dont just say "buy an Acura" without saying which model that would fit his needs. A RL is not what he is looking for if you been reading his posts.
