General Car Talk Discussion Thread
I'm really excited to see what it looks like - a C8 that's lower, wider, with bigger wheels and maybe a wing would really help from an aesthetics POV, I think.
I'll make it easy. No payment necessary, just credentials to review cars so I can update the Auto News section.
New BMW - "Car go okay. Nice interior. Stop good too. Expensive upkeep".
New Corvette - "Now midengine. Big power. Go really fast. Stop fast too. Murica".
We can start a YouTube channel with it. Yummy can vlog on it.

Here's a car that I'm sure you guys have not seen in a very long time. And it's for sale at an interesting website I stumbled upon:
Link for the car: 1985 Dodge Omni GLH

While we're at it, I stumbled upon this the other day. Always loved the lines on this boxy thing:
The Right Priorities: A 1JZ-Swapped Starion - Speedhunters

Last time I saw a Station was waaaay back when I worked at a parts store, this guy would bring his repainted blue Starion semi-often. I was tempted to pick one up as a project, but didn't want to deal with throttle body injection and an engine swap is way beyond my skill level.
ah, DSMs, what used to be. Now the Eclipse name is sullied, relegated to being a crossover.

I'm in the middle of Malcolm Gladwell's latest book and decided to do some background on the author - had no idea he was a car nut. Golf Rs, GTIs, an E39 M5. It caught me completely by surprise.
If you did start one, I could also merge all those generic roadster-related threads I mentioned into it and we'd get one spot.

The Nurburgring’s “Touristenfahrten” sessions – where the whole 13-mile track is opened to the public – are the stuff of automotive legend. Something every petrolhead ought to have on their bucket list. Around 170 were planned for 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic means none have been able to take place since mid-March.
Until now. Beginning on 30 April the ‘Ring will host ‘contactless tourist days’, where extra safety measures will be enforced to minimise face-to-face contact with the track’s staff and other drivers.
Now you have to buy tickets online in advance rather than on the day, can have no more than one passenger in your car, and when you’re on site you’re only allowed to get out of your car to use the one designated bathroom. Moreover, all the car parks around the track are closed to discourage spectators.
People drive for miles for Touristenfahrten sessions, but obviously they won’t be able to at the minute given all the travel restrictions in place around Europe. So for the foreseeable this is just for Germans, and local ones at that, given all the hotels in the area remain closed.
But still, good to see the ‘Ring taking these measures to get things going again. Stay safe everyone.

One of my biggest regrets was not making it to the Nurburgring when I was in Germany. It was very far away from the where the Oktoberfest festivities were, and that was the intent of the trip. Didn't go with car people either.
Some day I'll make it happen. Driving through the Swiss alps and German countryside was very scenic though. Having a manual rental car was kind of crazy to me.

Last May I was on a business trip and only about an hour away at one point, but didn't have the time to go. It's a for sure must-do next time I have personal time. Would had loved to take out the 5 series wagon on it...
(There has to be rental restrictions though).

I imagine it's mostly t hat the rental insurance is invalid if you wreck it. Depends on if the risk is worth it for you.
IIRC, there are multiple 'Ring rental companies with cars set up for lapping.

Yet couldn't be bothered to go another 100-200 miles to check out the ring.. bruh
I was in Orlando for a shuttle launch.. had an extra day.. Disney? Fuck no.
Drove down to Key West to let my dick hang out, then partied in Miami.. shietttt
Costco [-street cred]
Your ass paid thousands of dollars and traveled thousands more

at the time I didn’t wanna figure out the logistics or make time just for myself on a group trip.
Next time when it’s just me and the gf, yeah. Or if it’s with car people that are interested.
I have some friends who are into cars, but don’t care too much for Ring experience. Weird, but I’m not gonna gatekeep.
