Interviewing with a local BMW dealership tomorrow. Wonder how it is there.
Does anybody have an experience working at a dealership? I'm going in for a full-time assistant for #1 sales person there. This wasn't posted anywhere, only through connection. No floor sales activity. The person has been working there for 15 years, she only works on a repeat customer base.
Just trying to see how it is since I'm trying to change my career anytime now.

Everyone regarded the assistants to the #1 some of the best salespeople there once they became their own salespeople. Though you'll most likely work weekends and stay late into the night at times.
Dunno how clientele were shared, but I'm sure she'll pass on some of her customers to you. Your earning potential could be huge. But it will suck being out there in summer.

I haven't done it myself, but you'll be an assistant for a while. Most likely fleet. At least based off of the dealership I worked at, that #1 salesperson had been there for over two decades. It was all repeat business, he would sell 5-15+ cars at a time or something like that. The guy would leave at 2-3 every day and still sell more than anyone else.
Everyone regarded the assistants to the #1 some of the best salespeople there once they became their own salespeople. Though you'll most likely work weekends and stay late into the night at times.
Dunno how clientele were shared, but I'm sure she'll pass on some of her customers to you. Your earning potential could be huge. But it will suck being out there in summer.

Will get more info on the work hour and pay when I get to talk to her and the person who referred me at the dealership.
If it's a good pay and is a good opportunity to get my foot in the door, I will probably bite. If it's nothing related to the floor sales and doing business only through the emails and calls, I'm pretty used to it.

He has been there for 20 years since the company started & has been selling cars for close to 40 years now. He doesn't do Up lists, and makes most of his sales off repeat clientele or referrals; he can generally sell 3-6 cars on a Saturday alone.
Now, most of the work he does is really handled by his assistant while he just kind of watches. Most of the time, he meets & greets the clients, talks them through the sale, & then closes the deal. The assistant's job is literally all the physical activity; phone calls, appointments, getting cars, deliveries, paperwork, etc. When his consultant isn't there, he will then also make sales. The only time the consultant really gets his hands "dirty" is if it's just him & he'll generally only work with 1 or 2 clients & call it a day. To him at his point in his career, he can retire a happy man & he knows he can use his skills as leverage against the managers.
So, my advice is expect to be a salesman, just under another sales person who makes all the commission. But, then again, maybe she won't rely on you too heavily to do everything but talk the client into the deal. Some of our other consultants with assistants don't.
As someone pointed out, if you can make it stick, then depending on how far from retirement she is, you could have a large client base. The assistant I referenced above is definitely set himself.

Guess will have to find out what the actual job description in detail is tomorrow. I would love to learn the actual sales process and how the dealership works in general, and thought this would be a good opportunity.

i have quite a few close friends who work for local Jaguar, Acura, BMW, Nissan and Infiniti and they are friends since HS.
All we talk about is cars. But unlike back in days we talked about what kind of exhaust and bodykit to get, now we talk about car sales and experiences.
all i have to say is it is hard work with a lot of sacrifices to your personal life. While the "perks" are definitely attractive to us car guys but you have to be prepared not to have most of the weekend and especially holidays unlike all your friends and family. This is true especially in the first several years.
i can tell you this, you can literally say goodbye to your Saturday morning cruise and track days.
All we talk about is cars. But unlike back in days we talked about what kind of exhaust and bodykit to get, now we talk about car sales and experiences.

My best friend's dad has always been one of the upper finance guys easily making well into 6 figures for at least 20 years. Has no life as they work disgusting hours. I don't know if it's south FL but he doesn't recommend the business unless you have to. He's told me some stories on how the owners and managers have jerked people around including him. Get ready to deal with some fucking dicks.

There's really no better way, then. At least as an assistant, your ass isn't on the line if you can't meet sales numbers, but you should still receive the full run-down of how everything works from recognizing a client's characteristics when you meet them to the actual number crunching since there's always a chance you may need to work by yourself one day & basically do her job for her.

So that's basically the same for all dealership, right? It makes sense since I'm assuming those are the best days for the dealerships.

If you have the money for entry and truly are a dedicated salesman, why not try real estate? At least it's wayyy more flexible. You won't get paid immediately though so if you need a draw or whatever, it might not be for you.

That is actually one of the options I've been considering. I do have a few very successful real estate agents colleagues, and they work hard. They are generally more "happy" than the car sales guys. haha

Drove my friend's F10 535 with JB4 w/map 2 a few days ago.... a lot more punch off the line but somehow i just always think there is going to be something wrong with the car later.

My first mod is BMS chargepipe. I heard that's a good place to start. I think I'll get wheels next. Thinking about 19x9.5" with 255 front and 265 or 275 rear. Got any thoughts on that tribe-man?

As to your wheel choices, I like the move to 19inch a lot on the E9x. Not sure if 9.5 and those tire widths would work, unless the offsets are right, though. By way of comparison, my E60 M5 had 255 up front and 285 in the rear. 255 on the front of an E9x may be too big...I just don't know.

Problem is the compression, you'd need to be running some type of e85/meth to reach 425+hp But you should do it so I can buy the car off you in a couple years when you get bored

Actually, I'm still running my stock charge pipe. Without a full scan of my ECU, no one would know I've done any performance modifications at all. That being said, if I could swing the cash, I think the first hardware change I would make would be to get a bigger intercooler or a larger oil cooler. The 335 can run VERY hot and it would help out quite a bit to cool some of this down.
As to your wheel choices, I like the move to 19inch a lot on the E9x. Not sure if 9.5 and those tire widths would work, unless the offsets are right, though. By way of comparison, my E60 M5 had 255 up front and 285 in the rear. 255 on the front of an E9x may be too big...I just don't know.

Hear you on the tires maybe I should think 245 front and 255 or 265 rear. It's just that this wheel I wanted to get only comes in 9.5
I need to look at more wheels.

reading around there is def a lot of paranoia concerning the jb4 tune. but overall people seem to be happy with it.

I know I sound like a broken record on this, but I'll say it again - While the JB4 will certainly give you more power, I found that I preferred a little more balanced approach from ESS. Also, I preferred the complete re-write of the code, rather than the piggy back. What the what. Cliffs: I got some new tires/wheels for the car and had them installed today - Discount Tire Mt. Prospect installed 225's on the right side of the car, and the 255's on the left. Are you kidding me. I can't even.
Long version: So, I figured tire places kind of, know what they're doing by now, I got new wheels/tires for my car - 225/18 and 255/18 - because the wheels that came with the car were shot - I went to Discount Tire in Mt. Prospect this morning, left my place in the city at 7:15AM, got there at 8:30 or so, crazy traffic, I had to go there specifically because they had the tire pressure sensor valves that I needed (the Discount Tire in Glendale Heights I went to last night after picking up the new wheels didn't) - ok so I wait an hour for that to be done - no big deal - car is ready, I have to then drive back to the city for work so I just glanced it over quickly and left - on the way I'm kind of noticing it feels a little weird, but I didn't think too much of it. I snapped some quick pix and went to work - looking at the pix at work, I'm noticing one of the rears looking a little "thin" - so I go home and find out these mofo's put the 225's on the right side and the 255's on the left side. Are you kidding this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen a tire place do. At least if you put the 255's in front and 225's in back that would be SEMI "ok" in such a land of incompetence. Ok anyways there's my day

eh, this is just a 3-series, why would I not be able to take it to Discount Tire? Not like its some exotic or something. 
I spoke to them and they are going to refund as much as they can. I have to go back there to get that done though, it's about 30 miles one way - they said they would refund gas costs too. But I had a friend say I should ask for free tires for a certain period or something.
Even though nothing happened, this is still pretty serious because I theoretically could have lost control of the car - this is negligence. Not to mention the time / effort. Mental distress too.

Even though nothing happened, this is still pretty serious because I theoretically could have lost control of the car - this is negligence. Not to mention the time / effort. Mental distress too.
