Congrats to your friend! Was this the same friend that was looking for a fun-to-drive car a while back?
Actually, I have a bone to pick with the "lady driven" claims on car ads. Generally speaking, that's a negative IMHO. Most, if not all of my female friends that drive are careless. Their cars are filthy, dinged and scratched up, and less aware of surroundings than my male friends. I know that's a blanket statement, it doesn't go for all my female friends, but definitely the vast majority.
And before you blame it on age, my 55-year-old mother falls victim to it too. The scratch on my rear bumper was caused by her, and she can be a little bit careless in the city. All her friend's cars looked like a grenade blew up in them.
Cliffs: IMHO, men take care of their cars more than women.

There are a lot of stereotypes out there as far as car owners go. Typically your best bet would be to buy from an older lady, original owner with service records.
On the other hand the last person you would probably want to buy from is some younger male who performs the maintenance himself, and speaks as if he knows what he's doing. Especially if the car is somewhat sporty and is a stickshift.
Though I do agree, on average men take better care of their cars than women do. Then there's the whole age and race thing too, but I don't wanna even touch that.

I usually go for a car that was owned by 40-50yr old men with a family. My CL came from a 40 something year old guy. Its mechanically sound, but he just didnt take care of the paint
If I were in the market for a Miata or S2k, you could find some older women that are selling them. They tend to take care of their cars as well.

Now finding a wealthier person that owns the car works in your favor if its a man or woman I think. The man will properly maintain the car, and the woman will take it to the dealership whenever the light comes on and tells the dealer to do its thing without questions.

the only thing that bothered me is the torque of that thing. i don't know it's because i'm used to my car, but it was definitely very slow for my taste.
how does modified TSX 6MT do in terms of straightline performance? maybe like full bolt-ons with a tune? F/I-ing is just too much of a hassle and costly for N/A stock cars, so don't really care about that.
also, the suspension felt pretty soft. i was expecting it to be a little bit solid, but i don't know, it was soft for my taste.

Random thought but I'd be perfectly content to daily a Matrix XRS. 6MT, disc brakes all around, basically a Celica GTS wagon but with a stealth factor included.
Or even a CR-Z.... sat in one at the car show yesterday.

Dead serious. 30+ mpg, it's a smallish wagon/hatch, and assuming it has some sporting DNA borrowed from the GTS, it's probably fun to drive as well. It has the same engine and transmission as the Celica GTS, oh and fun fact, so does the Elise.

WTF - I was looking at tires tonight. Im not due for a replacement yet, but probably around June. PRICES HAVE GONE THROUGH THE ROOF.
I bought my Hankooks back in March 2010. They were $129 each on Tire Rack. Even back in August 2011 they were still in the $130 range. I checked tonight. $175 for the same damn tire size.
Those arent the only tires to jump in price. I looked at the Conti DWs, they were around $130 or so back in August, now theyre about $180 each. Im kicking myself for not picking up a set when they were on sale about a month ago. Im not looking forward to replacing my current set
Heres hoping they go on sale again around April.

Not all tire prices' have gone up. Just some brand and Hankook is especially up across its models. The V12s have gone up way too much. It's no longer appealing at that pricing point in my opinion.

Only one Aston Marton One-77 left to purchase new

Bound and determined to get your hands on an Aston Martin One-77? If so, now's the time to get serious. According to duPont Registry, the very last factory-built One-77 is finally up for sale.
The car is located in Tamba Bay, Florida, and its exact build number is not known. According to the report, the first and last One-77, build numbers one and 77, were pre-sold to wealthy buyers expecting them to appreciate in value faster than the other 75 One-77 models created.
In any case, duPont Registry claims there are between five and eight One-77 supercars roaming the streets in the United States, making this one rare Aston Martin. Interested? Better get a move on... and bring along something in the neighborhood of $2 million.

so parents have been out of town, and i'm being exposed to owning three cars now.
00 tl, which is what i normally drive
08 accord ex-l V6 -mom
10'corolla -dad
So since my tires are shot, i've just been driving my moms car for now. Soon to switch to my dads (gonna drive each car for a week lol)
But my moms car averaged 24.2mpg (car readout said 24.8) not so bad, but my commute was mostly highway with a few days of traffic in there. Also this thing handles much better than my car! Especially with the firehawk tires (before were some michellin)
Its gotten me curious to see what an actual sports car feels like. I've been behind the wheel of a 328i in a volvo event but that was mostly low speed stuff, but still handled great!!

Buy a Miata. The '90s models can be had for next to nothing and they handle great. Plus, RWD.
Also, 24mpg in the Accord is pretty bad IMO. My moms 08 Accord EX-L V6 sedan averages ~32mpg highway. My brothers 08 V6-6 coupe averages ~26mph mixed.

Really, thats interesting. Well I notice when i'm driving on the highway its always averaging high 20's low 30s, but i live in a hilly area and that kills the mpg.

So I have a 6mt now and people always ask me if i find it more fun than my old DCT car.
Honestly, I dont. I really really enjoyed DCT and I think I prefer it over manual. Of course not enough to pay the premium for it on the used car market.

I understand its personal preference however there are many manual drivers on the M3post who bought DCT who feel the same. I have yet to hear anyone buy a DCT M3 and say they wished they had a 6speed. There are tons of threads on this topic.
I am pleasantly surprised with the light clutch feel though for daily driving. It makes it effortless and it has yet to bother me in traffic. However I wished the shifter felt more like Hondas gearbox. Theres just too much rubbery feel on the BMW shifter, even with a SSK.
DCT I just loved how quick it was and downshifting and taking off would just snap your neck. The sound of blipping the throttle was toxic. Any gear you wanted, you can be in it. It did give a lot of freedom like most autos dont. It had so many settings that you can leave it in a certain one to relax and the shifts would be buttery smooth that you wouldnt even notice the car was changing gears. I think overall i liked it because it had so much personality in one gearbox.
Wish I could explain it better.

I had a big thread about this with a DCT guy on facebook a few weeks ago. After maybe 50 replies, he admitted he had no idea how to heel and toe and generally was not too good at driving stick. There is definitely a great divide between DCT and MT guys, right now.
#800
now I don't want to give you the impression that I'm some kind of star race car driver or something - I'm not, very far from it - but I do know how to heel and toe at the racetrack, and I think that's something that the majority of the DCT guys don't know. What do you think?
That's a skill that makes driving stick VERY rewarding and enjoyable, especially for spirited driving.
