G35 gets upgraded!
The G35 forums have been pretty busy with this news. A slight change for the better but as admited by owners on G35 forums the interior is still not as nice as a TL.
The HP bump to 277 from 260 in the sedan seems to be a reaffirmation of the true power of the previous engine not necessarily an actual increase.
Infiniti made their good entry level sedan/coupe even better - standard stuff for a midlife upgrade.

My only complaint with the current interior was the materials, not the design and it sounds like they've been taken care of, mainly by getting rid of that chunk of silver plastic along the center console.
As far as the hp, I think its very unlikely that they only upped the number and not the power, but we shall see soon enough.
Looks like Infiniti's intent on not letting anyone else beat it in the HP game. I have to give credit to them for listening to the complaints about the interior material. At least now they're using real aluminum trim, although I still don't like the design. But now Infiniti has to keep upping the HP on other models if the G35 is to be its cheapest offering.

Probably not much more. The upcoming Acura RL is supposedly getting 300hp but only for the US market, in Japan it'll be rated at 280hp. I don't know if that's to conform with the so-called gentleman's agreement or not, though. But Infiniti is probably going to top the VQ at somewhere around 300 also.

The M35 is currently rated at 270+ hp so it'll probably be on par with the G35S (powerwise). The M45 will still have a 340hp VK45DE motor; thus, a solid HP/TQ advantage over the M35/G35. Question is: how will it be geared and how much will it (M45) weigh?
Nissan has quite a few newly designed vehicles for 2005: Altima, Pathfinder, Xterra. On the nissan news site, the interiors of these look really alike. I'm sorry to say that I don't really like the way they look.
The top models of these new vehicles all have 250hp. I guess the mpg will suffer at the same time.
Of course, all things can look alright (definitely not the xterra), wait until the test drive.

The Xterra is unique in that it displaces 4L versus the Nissan-typical 3.5L. That said, it's an eyesore.
The new interior of the G35 is nicer than before, but still not as nice as either the TSX or TL.
One of the things that turned me away from the G35 when I was shopping for a car was its poor gas mileage. I wonder if this new one would be even worse than before? This is even more of a concern these days with our current gas prices.

Well until the Lexus GT model high-performance hybrids start coming in a couple years.

Gilbo, 1sicklex and biker, you are all absolutely correct - there is no free lunch and I would not expect the G35 to get even 30 mpg. However, I didn't need all the power and speed of the G35, and so it was not the best choice for me. It probably is for some people, but for me, fuel economy (as well as interior appointment) is more important than having 0-60mph shorter by 1-2 seconds. There needs to be a good balance between performance and fuel economy for me.
I am another one who can't wait to see those hybrid sports sedans coming!

THe RX 400h coming this Novemeber.
270hp
lower 0-60 (I heard low 7 seconds possibly high 6s) and 0-100 times.
City mileage of 36mpg, highway 34mpg
Looks almost identical to the RX (no silly electric car styling)
The RX 330 offers
230hp
0-60 in 8 seconds
Mileage of about 22-24mpg.
The RX 400h will cost more but is the first example of hybrids being used and marketed for performance improvements as well as fuel economy benefits. It may cost 10% more, maybe $4,000 more, which you will save over time with paying less for gas.

Looks like the rear end of the sedan has undergone some drastic changes and thank god because it was looking dated IMO.
I can't see much difference in the Coupe but I think the back may be changed as well. Hope they tread lightly with the coupe's restyling because it looked fine as it was.
