Back up on the lift to tighten down the bolts that rattled loose on the trail. It was starting to sound like the frontier for a minute.
I also decided to hook the rear camera up while I was at it. The old 15 dollar camera was tucked in with the license plate indent. Had to get one that would mount flat .
I think all 15 dollar cameras are the same. They do okay, it would be cool if there were a aftermarket option that did the hd 360 view the cool guy luxury cars have. I would think that rock crawlers would love that.
I don't know if I missed something but why does the license plate say B000B5 and then BBBBB?
I have one of those james bond rotating things. Also, all my guns posted in the ramblings thread have very low serial numbers, usually the first produced.
Either that or it's Photoshop and though I don't know why I care if you know my plate number I'm willing to spend 10 minutes obfuscating it on each picture.

Haha gotcha, I would think the more privacy you can have online the better honestly.
New tires (used tires, I mean I don't have fictitious 4runner roof rack money) They are the same model as I have on the black xterra. I was going to wait till I shredded one out in the desert, but 60 a tire for a good off road built tires was too good to pass up. They are also only 2 years old, where the other tires were oem 2011 from the black xterra.
I don't know how much I showed before, but the paint was really starting to peel off. I painted it once with rattle cans, but every time I washed the dirt off of it another square foot of primer would appear. I was perfectly willing to go at it with a roller and rustoleum once a year, but last month my grandpa and his niece went and got it painted behind my back. 400 dollars sanded it down to metal, primed, and painted. Did they take every bit of trim off? No. Are there some masking errors? Yes. Was it painted in a shed, also yes, but they did a pretty good job. They are even going to polish it in another week or two and painted most of the plastic bumper trim.
Oh, and I didn't wash it for pictures because I was just changing the tires and I want to drop it back off at the painter/autopartstore/hotel/restraunt/clothing shop before I leave.
Let us look back on the words of our forefathers. It may have been a simpler time but I for one believe ~~XXXxxx420moneyxxxXXX~~'s word's ring true today.
New tires part two
You can't import tires off the wheels into mexico, and the max you can have is two spares. I didn't want to drive the truck back up to AZ (make my grandpa who is 90 drive 6 hours on the highway in the other truck) just to swap tires so it took a couple of trips. Anyway now I can rest a little easier about the sidewalls offroad. The BFG longtrails I had on before are pretty well known for being easy to puncture.
Whatever, the paint is dry and I guess they polished it. It's got some orange peel, but it's also a 400 dollar Mexico paint job done 500 feet from the beach.
Okay, so fun Mexico vehicle.
Bought with 145k miles for a little under 3k, It's water pump was about to blow so it was about 2k under other 4x4's with similar mileage in town.
Brought up to par mechanically for ~ 700 (water pump, timing belt, gaskets, various stock intake parts, suspension a arms and bushings)
Battery was free because my friend doesn't know how to charge an optima.
I think in metal I was right around 120 dollars for the bumper after I bought those half round things
used tires for 300 bucks
wheels for 100
interior for 400 dollars
paint for 400dollars, I was happy to just keep painting it with rattle cans as the primer came off and just live with the interior, but my grandpa aranged them to to be done when I wasn't looking. It makes it feel like a different vehicle though. I 'm glad he did it.
5020 for a well sorted 4x4 seems alright to me. I think I could have found a truck more immediately usable for 5-6k, but I don't think I would have been able to trust them any more without doing the same amount of work.
and i agree...
i go through similar maths.
5k for a better condition one you still have to put 2k into to make reliable.
starting at 3k makes it something you can get back out of without loss or minimal loss.
plus, you now KNOW the vehicle.
I feel like a car is the opposite of a new person in a relationship...
it'll show you it's flaws in the first couple of months
Found some skit plates for the black one. Not going to put them on till the weather clears up a bit, don't want them to get rusty.
That's dirt actually. I had to turn on the AC on the way back from Phoenix today.
Also Joking aside I'm still not sure I'm going to put them on the x. They are heavy as hell and I don't bounce off rocks that often and my friend who does may be more interested. I just couldn't pass up the price. Don't think I could make them for cheaper. 3/16 steel isn't cheep and neither is time on a press than can bend it.
I have a picture of my car in my car. Time for the show circuit.
Some guy known as I draw your car. Did a giveaway on the /r/xterra . If he did it on thenewx.org I wouldn't have had a chance, but that subredditIt is a fairly slow corner of the internet so I won just by participating. I think the manual in the sleeve with my car on it is cute though.
I managed to wrangle a deal to make that ford fiso mine. It's had some new (matching) tires put on, a new battery fitted, and passed emissions since I touched it last.
By wrangled I mean it just just nickel and diming them to death because every part of it was half assed. Case in point the part I need to fix to move it off their property. I saw a puddle on the ground and just stuck my phone under it to confirm the part when I'm at the parts counter.
The 2nd or 3rd time I looked at it I got a good belly laugh out of it. It's been attached with bailing wire. My helper pushed on the brake and the whole assembly just kinda shimmies around. NFG. It's missing a plastic clip that doesn't come with the aftermarket units and ford discontinued. I pestered the ford dealer till they gave me the old part number and found a list of a few dealers that still have the part, but no luck yet. Could be a job for the 3d printer, but I think I can't just wing the OD dimensions as it's supposed to snap into those bracket indents. I don't want to use a old junkyard piece because they will probably break as well.
Oh, and I think there may be a small oil leak, but it's too early to tell.
