Friend's New Car
Friend's New Car
You may recall about a month ago my buddy totaled his 2001 VW Jetta VR6. Thread is here.
Anyway, today he just picked up his new car, a 2002 Audi Allroad. It's Atlas Gray and a bit of a rare bird as it's a 6-speed manual with the 2.7T. The guy he bought it from is an auto broker and just repaired the front air suspension, a $1,200 value. It's a California car with only 58,000 miles and he got it for just $17,900. KBB pegs it at $24,225 from a dealer. I'd say that's a deal. We took it on a rutted gravel road here just to see how it would do and it held it's own just fine.

People seem to have a serious problem with wagons. Personally I think they should stop being douchebags and get over themselves. Wagons if anything prove you have a brain.
I have no problem with wagons at all. In fact I think they're great, examples of which including the RS6 Avant, new C-Class wagon, LGT wagon, etc.
I do have a problem with the wagons like the XC90, Allroad, Outback, etc. Unpainted bumpers and fenders are so 90's. Good deal though, and that's a sweet powertrain combo.

makes it look cheaper imo... like a honda element
The engine in the allroad is the same setup thats in the S4 of the same gen I believe. And awesome he got the rare 6 speed. I looked for one once, but everyone knows what they are and wants too much for them. Chip it and let them all laugh at his "wagon"
As for the comments of the unpainted bumpers. Lets all look at the the 3 wagons mentioned. There is a difference between a civilized road going wagon, these more off-raod capable wagons, and the reasons for the unpainted bumper is more utilitarian then aesthetic.

Good luck with the reliability though

I really do not understand why so many people have this stigma against wagons. When I have a family to haul around, you can be damn sure I will not driving and SUV or a minivan so wagons are the only things that interest me. Plus, you can get wagons that have such insane performance potential these days that one can satisfy the need for speed while having room for the family and all the necessities for a weekend trip.

Some only see what it looks like and not what it's capable of. It's all about image in the U.S.
