His ZR-1 went a 10.74 at 133.21mph! Car has 11k on it, factory tires with still the factory air cleaner in it.

Wow, that launch was impressive.

He didn't care about the light and focused on the launch as you can see by his 1.73 reaction time. A slower pass he went 133.9 and says the car still has some better times and should break 134mph.

Excellent. That's almost as quick as the 1969 ZL1 Corvette (also with street tires). That car turned in a 1/4 mile at 10.30 seconds at 130 MPH. There were only two made.

His launch was tentative and his shifts were slow. However, I can completely understand this. This is his street car and no doubt his baby, and it's unlikely he is of a mind to hurt the car. Also, I have to bet his traction control was on since there was virtually no wheel spin.
So with all of this said, a 10.74 is absolutely MOST impressive.

Cool. Very impressive cars.

Not challenging your information in regards to the ZL1, but where did you find the information in regards to the quarter mile times? Several years ago I can recall seeing an old article from PHR claiming a quarter mile time of 11.0 for the Corvette ZL1, and a tick over 12 seconds when tested by R & T.

I found this, but not sure if the older cars were showroom stock, or customs. I could see the Veyron and S7 being in the mid to low 10's.

The trap speed was 130 MPH, but the ET was 10.8 seconds, not 10.3 as I had reported. Sorry gentlemen. I will now go back into my padded room and enjoy Mickey Mouse Club reruns.

Finally, a showroom stock vehicle capable of ludicrous speed!!! Sweet!!!

Ok, I found the article and I must request a knife and fork to eat some of this crow I have in front of me.

No worries. It just seemed a little off.

I haven't rode in it yet and with the weather here, I doubt I'll get to any time soon.

Ok, a few things that could drop a bit of time from his ET. First was the launch.
When doing a milk run, your reaction time is not critical as long as you don't break the beams. His reaction time was around 1.28 seconds. That's a long time if he was running against another car.
Next his launch needed to be more aggressive. But I understand the problem with traction with this car so without slicks, I think he may have done almost as good as he could.
Shifting. His shifts were pretty slow. But I am going to go with not wanting to trash his car which I completely understand. And this is why I said that under the circumstances of his run, a 10.74 is a fantastic time and he has every right to be proud of it. On the other side, what I am saying is one has to wonder what his car would turn in with slicks, a serious launch, and speed shifting (not power shifting since we don't want to take the chance of lunching his tranny). Can I hear 10.5's or better????

Wow that was an absolutely perfect launch. The ZR-1 is absolutely bonkers and about the wildest thing I've ever had a ride in. Hopefully in 2 years or so prices will fall a bit more so it cannot be more affordable to the masses.:wishes:

I just want those wheels (and a car that can fit those babies!). Southern Boy, you are saying that the launch was slow, and forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the ZR-1 have a launch control feature? So I'd assume that the launch was close to perfect for this particular car, unless the Chevy guys didn't set the launch control parameters at optimum.

I would love to see one of these babies do a serious (hard) launch with slicks and no traction control impeding the driver. I bet that would be sweet.

His '95 LT-1 Corvette did a 10.93@133 pass back in 1999, he's been doing this a while and definitely knows how to run at the strip.
I'll have to ask him if launch control was on and how that was. He said on his vette forum that he was having trouble with the 1-2 gear shift that the tires would spin too hard. He ran a bunch of passes and when he softened the shifts he had better times, so that's why on this vid he's not shifting hard, too much wheel spin on stock tires.

I watched it on my phone but that was impressive. Damn near Ranger's times, but he usually runs drag radials on his best passes.
I believe all 2009+ or 2010+ Corvettes have the launch control feature. But it usually cuts engine power very quickly several times in a second to mitigate wheelspin, which is very noticeable if you listen. It sounds almost like it's bouncing off of a rev limiter. Couldn't tell in that vid but either way it seemed like a damn smooth launch for a 500+ whp on stock rubber.

Good god that was quick.
For those of you wondering how it would do with slicks...
