I have both in my driveway right now (obviously not mine). I went for back to back comparison drives and they are both excellent vehicles, I still personally like the IS F a little more, but the M3 (coupe) is amazing! The relative with the M3 has had several Lexus before and was impressed with the steering feel and responsiveness of the F.

I'll post some pictures later.

I just really dont like the ass end of this car, I stand by my comment. of course if I could take the car and sell it for an M3...sure I'd take it, but I was taking that out of the equation. I do really like the front end of the IS-F, looks mean as hell, but the M3 still looks like it would eat it in a second.

wow, a Lexus with steering feel? So the dodo isn't extinct after all!!!!!!

I actually like the front end of the IS-F more than the M3.... I normally think hood bulges are hot, but the M3's hood bulge looks funky, the side markers look out of place, and there's just something about it that makes me think the IS-F looks better. But the M3 definitely has a nicer tail and sexier profile thanks to the coupe body.

IMO M-Technik 3-series front > IS-F front > M3 front > C63 front

I kinda like the C63 front end, but it just looks off for some reason. Maybe its too over-the-top....

Yeah, it has pretty good steering feel (IMO), it is A LOT better than the two other Lexus I have driven (SC4300, ES330). I didn't get to drive the M3, but my cousin did have me check the steering responsiveness from the passenger seat on an empty road and it felt about the same as the IS F. Great cars.

Too bad there wasn't a Mercedes C63 AMG in that driveway also. I love that car! The Lexus IS-F is boring unless it's in that badass blue color! That one is eye catching for some reason!

Those double stacked exhausts have got to fucking go!

Are you serious? The e92 M3 is sooo much more cushy than the e46 M3. Go drive one.

Plus you have 3 electronic damper settings to choose from -
  • Comfort - which is way too soft IMO
  • Normal - which is stiff, not too stiff, and just right
  • Sport - which is very stiff...

The e92 M3 is more of a DD than the e46 M3 which is simply raw power.

In terms of looks I think the C63 has the most road presence.

The new M3 just doesnt wow me in terms of looks like the E46 M3 did when that was first released. Guess i just wished they made wider. Love everything else about it though.

Would have a hard time picking between the M3 and C63.

IS-F? Whats dat...

Neighbor has an IS-F (black). Very subtle ... but the fender flares, big wheels (with big brakes) and all the "F" badging kinda gives it away. I think on appearance alone, Lexus is moving the right step if it wants to compete with the big boys (Audi, BMW, MB) -- not to say they got it right the first time with the IS-F, but at least it's a good start.

Reliability -- not certain but it's past history of over-engineering lasting cars says a lot. But I will hypothesize and say the cost of ownership over 5 yrs will be less than the MB, BMW or Audi. (Forget about keeping an AMG product beyond the warranty ... can we say repair bills? And my bro's C32 has left an awful taste in my mouth ...)

I like the IS-F but I wouldn't drop that kinda coin on it. Nor would I spend one on a M3, C63 or a RS4. Can't justify that kinda $$$ for those kinda cars. If I actually took them to a track ... different story. I'd just get the 'lesser' models (ie 335 / C350 / A4, respectively) and mod them to my liking.

Ya, the same applies to me as well. I'd rather go with the lesser versions and modify them accordingly.

To me a 335i and IS350 are good compromises to the M3 and IS-F, respectively.

With an engine software upgrade and exhaust from Dinan, the 335i reaches 392hp/429lb-ft (not to mention removing the speed governor). Though it still gives up 22hp to the M3, the add'l 134 lb-ft more than makes up for it.
