Folks In Texas

How many of you in Texas have removed your front license plate? If you have, how many of you have gotten tickets for it?

TIA
p.s. Mods, if this thread is in the wrong section, please move it to the correct on for me. Thank's

California has a mandatory front license plate law.
I've been running without one on multiple cars for over 10 years...never received a ticket.

Removing the front plate is the FIRST thing I do on any of my new vehicles, since my '97 Z28, and not one ounce of trouble for it.

I always keep my front plate on my cars (I'm so used to seeing them I think it looks silly without it), but I have a few friends who have had problems with it. It seems to be the kind of deal they'll tack on only if you get pulled over for something more serious.

Whn i had my TL stock, i never got pulled over for not having a front plate. As soon as i got rims, tints, drop, I/H/E, i got pulled over a couple times. No tickets though. I had a receipt from a body shop with no date showing bodywork and an order for a new front plate bracket. And i always kept my "broken" plate bracket in my car as well. My little brother cant stop getting pulled over. He has a red RX-8, tinted with wheels, exhaust, and intake.

when i was down in S.A. TX for work for about 6 months, I brought my car from PA which doesn't require front plates (River Otter plate...hard to tell what state it's from).

people told me to watch out that cops may stop me, even if they can't ticket me after seeing my registration...but I never got stopped. I have a feeling it's not a big deal as some other states and not worth the time most of the time to pull someone over for just a plate.

With the amount of gangs down here you would think they had better things to do But I decided not to risk it and registered my cars out of state . Or should I say, out of country? The TL and NSX look sooo much better without front plates...

Since I have been driving since 16, now 30. It was used once as an excuse to pull me over. Never had a ticket just for that offense

Thank's for all the input everyone. If anyone else has any other input, please keep it comming.
I ask this questionbecause I just bought a new TL and I know the front of the car looks really good w/o the license plate, and I'mjust debating on whether to take it off or not. It seems like the law isn't inforcedvery much so I think I'm gonna take it off, still not positive yet though.
Thank's again for the input, keep it comming.

Had no front plate for a while (years ago)
Got pulled over just for that reason (warning)
Wore my front plate for a year then changed it with a black Acura vanity plate on front (equally as illegal)
Have not been pulled over for it in over a year

Note: When I did get pulled over it was because, for some reason all the cops in Central Texas were looking for this. During that period I knew a bunch of people who got pulled over for the same reason. After the focus was off of the front tag business I have not heard of anyone getting pulled over for it.

Man. All these Corvettes on the roads with no front plate (understandably). I wonder if police are being selective when doing this.

On a side note: I did see a Corvette with a front license plate on it around the time when the police were cracking down on front plates. It looked utterly rediculous.

I have only had my TL for 5 months, no ticket... Knock on wood. My TL is stock too and I live in the suburbs of Austin. I bet you though the minute i drop it and put wheels, I could potentially. Who, knows... I only have tint, that's it.

So I've decided to take it off. So I went to the dealer to see if I could get a pair of bumper plugs for the two holes, and the service guy tells me that it would cost me $28 to have both of the plugs ordered and shipped and and I was like wtf. I left because i didnt have time to talk about getting them for free, and I didn't want to pay $28 for a pair of bumper plugs that I should have gotten with the car anyway. Ended up going back about a week later and talked to my sales guy and politely told him that I wanted a pair of bumper plugs and that I didn't want to pay anything for them. He was like shure thing let me go look and see if I can find a pair. He came back and said that he had talked to the service manager and that guy said that after they took them off the car they just threw the pugs away. So to make my day, my sales guy took care of me went ahead and ordered me a pair and said that they'd be shipped to my house at no charge.
Another pleasant experience with Sterling Acura in Austin.

I was pulled over for speeding and he inspected the front. But I had a plate.

I would imagine that they wouldn't pull you over for not having a plate but that they'd tack it on if they already have you for something else.

I'm in Houston.

I've gotten a tkt in my TL and my Civic for no front license plate. the Civic is boosted with a big front mount so of course I wanted it off but I finally put it back on after I got my second tkt. My TL just has the 18in aspec chrome on it and I got a tkt for it. Damn Dallas PD. I forgot about the tkt and when they sent me a letter, they wanted $380 to clear it.

^^^ That sucks, esp. since you're the minority. Maybe you give off a special scent or something. lol
As long as I stay clear of Lakeway I shouldn't have many problems.
