Finally traded the CL-S
Finally traded the CL-S
Well, my wife cried when we started the deal so I told her we would wait and think about it over the weekend. After a few minutes she came to grips with it and said OK.
I am now the proud owner of a brand new 2006 Pontiac GTO
I would suggest that anyone who has ever wanted a new V8 muscle car check this car out at your local Pontiac dealer. 2006 is the last year they made it and they still have a few left. GMAC is giving 0% interest for 5 years on ALL 2006 models right now to clear them out. With a price of $32K @ 0% it was a lower payment (for the same length of time) than the used '06 GTO I was looking at.
She's whore-house red and putting 400ft lb of torque to the rear wheels. I went with the 6 speed manual. We took a road trip to a wedding at the beach this weekend and I still got a chubby from driving this thing. What I've noticed, with it's plain/sleeper looks, not a single chick looked at me this weekend. But, EVERY guy that heard the rumble was rubber-necking me. Even dudes on Harleys and one guy in a Z06 vette. This is totally opposite of the Acura, where 90% of my compliments came from chicks.
I'll get a picture up after I wash the bugs off this afternoon.
I kind of got a lump in my throat looking at my old CL (CLeo) on my cardomain page this morning. It was a great car and had many more luxuries than the GTO, but hey, sitting on top of an LS2, I can live without a sunroof and heated seats...

Everyone I know who bought one new paid $22k for it (6MT 340hp edition)... And it's discontinued now ... I would never pay near MSRP for that car.

Here's a good read for the buyer... (you have to read through the BS in the thread)

I love the GTO I just don't know about paying that much for it... But to each their own. I spend $$ on crap people don't understand all the time
You bought 1 of 1600 left!

- $18,000 financed for 5 years at 6% is $350/month. Total after 5 years is $21,000.
- $31,000 financed for 5 years at 0% is $515/month. Total after 5 years is $31,000.
So like you said, $10,000 more for the 5 years or $2,000 more a year.
So in 5 years you will have a 2004 GTO worth $10,000 or a 2006 GTO worth $14,000 (bogus numbers of course). So you could argue now the difference is $6,000 ($10,000-$4,000=$6,000) to drive the new 2006 GTO for 5 years.
If it was me, I'd buy a used a 2005 GTO for $20,000 and call it good.

It is in the fine print "when you take retail delivery of..."
All the used '06 GTOs I looked at were above 24K. By the time you pay interest on that loan, it would have cost me more to buy a used one.
I did the math first.
aesir11 - I am looking at headers and cat back at this time. Maybe a SC later on when she is out of warranty. This is a great platform for building a drag car. Since it is a coupe that can take a big block, I sure it will be sought after in years to come for a cheap used coupe to build for racing.

ya for $24k, that's true... Weird, you must have a shortage in your area. Used they are a lot cheaper out here. Hopefully it becomes a collectors item and holds it's value
I researched and scouted this car for 3 weeks. Had I found an '05 for 22K or less I would have bought it.
They did give me 9K for my'01 CLS that had 119K miles on it. That was much better than I expected. If they weren't going to give me more than 7K, I was going to keep it.

I did see a couple of '04s for 20-22K, but why get the LS1 when I could have the LS2

It's not too hard to understand, guys. If I had bought a used car, I would have to pay anywhere from 6.9-8.9% interest on the loan. Though it is a 2006, it was a brand new car with only 214 miles on it when I drove it off the lot.
The GMAC 0% ("when you take retail delivery of...) deal is ONLY on 2006 models to get them off the lot. Some dealerships in my area did not have any left. Where I bought mine had 3 left and one of those was spoken for.
I did my homework and I'm happy with the deal. My plan is to have it paid off in 3-4 years and buy the wife a "luxury" car and the GTO will become a dedicated "hot-rod". Maybe add a cage and blower and get her out to the tracks.

im wondering how you feel about the interior coming from an acura. personally i think the seats look pretty confortable but the dash and center console look a bit subar for a 30k car. of course i paid 30k also for my tsx and you have twice the cylinders under the hood, so clearly our priorities lie in different places.
Congrats on the new car!
I'll be the odd one out here and say: Great engine, but it still looks like a cheap, crappy Pontiac Sunfire/Chevrolet Cavalier with horrible looking tail lights and outdated styling on the exterior.

I know everyone gets it for the engine though.

My last vehicles owned were 4 Nissan's and then then 2 Acuras (not counting the gig vans). I was ready for some American V8 muscle (well Australian in this case)
It IS all about what you are looking for. As I stated in the original post, we gave up a lot of luxuries, but when you jump in one of these and pound through the gears one time, you KNOW what this car is all about.
gdubb, I drove a used Brazen orange '06 model. When I got to looking close I could see that the hood didn't fit up right, like it had been wrecked, it had GOLD touch-up paint dabbed here and there and one of the headlight fixtures was cracked. The dealer still wanted $24,995 for it
According to a person on a GTO forum, there are only less than 1400 GTOs left on lots around the country at this time. I have been told by a few that I was lucky to get a 6-speed. Some are driving hundreds of miles to get the color/tranny they want.

In the CL I got lots of looks and compliments from ladies. So far in the GTO, not one lady has even looked my way. BUT, every guy on the street will rubber-neck me when they hear the 6.0 rumbling by.
It's definitely a "man's car" and again I have to thank my great wife for allowing this to happen.
