Fiberglass Vs. CarbonFiber?

I am looking to buy a new kit after I had an accident with my oem kit on my TSX. I was wondering if anyone had any insite on how big the difference would be between carbon fiber and fiberglass when it comes to wear and tear. ???

I know urethane is the way to go but I couldn't find anyone offering one in urethane. If anyone knows of one and where I could buy it, that'd be helpful aswell.

Urethane is the best compromise, but if anything go with carbon fiber. I would also paint it, looks cleaner IMO. Carbon fiber is very strong and really light. Fiberglass is light also but it tends to develop cracks.

if the piece is structural, get CF. If the piece is for show, and will be painted, get fiberglass. If the piece is for show and you want to look bling bling (front lip, hood, rear lip) go CF. And i also agree with Costco^^ but CF is not strong when it comes to body kits and what not. It has to be formed in a certain way for it to become stronger then steal. And since you probably just be buying a bumper, lip, skirts and what not, ie not structural, Cf wont we any better then fiberglass or urethane. Come to think about it, how does CF, Urethane, and fiberglass compare in regards to weight?

I am not sure about weight differences, but I will compromise weight for durability because my stock urethane kit has take a few hits.

I'd really like to hear some more about CF. Fiberglass is out of my plans, but I dont want to spend money on a CF kit if it is going to crack or break as easy as fiberglass.

from what i know, CF doenst crack. But when it goes, it goes like shrapnel, thousands of pieces. Not sure how much pressure is needed for this, but look at some F1 crashes. You just see debris going everywhere!

UR can take the most damage but is also the heaviest of the bunch. CF is much lighter weight and can take some abuse. (although not much).. The real problem with CF is sence most of it is pressure treated there is no real way to repair it. atleast to my knowledge

i thought one of its gimmicks was that it didnt crack. It might crack from bad manufacturing, but i might be wrong. im just going off what ive heard listening to F1 commentators so i might be 100% wrong

Keep in mind, the CF you get on these kits are simply overlays over fiberglass. They can EASILY crack. I had a veilside CF lip that almost cracked during installation.

^ and just to add, some of the CF hoods I've seen are HORRIBLE. It's like the manufacturer cheapened out on the product because they knew they would be overlaying it with CF. So imagine cheap fiberglass with a few layers of CF.

I know what your sayin, I have a CF hood but they made it in 2 pieces, the top and the bottom, and the bottom is fiberglass.. got a crack just from shutting the hood.

I live in WV where there road transitions are never flat so I suppose Im going to get the CF and see what happens.
