Don't be a yokel, it's as easy as taking a sawzall to the wheel.
Same. It's dirty AF after the road trip. Now that it's cold here I need to find a place to wash it since I can't at home.
Lord Elon blessed the car himself.

Oh, the Y is a dumpster fire right now. Not to mention it looks like my wife opened the trunk into something. TBH, a little part of the trunk is bent but that's going to cost like $1.4 million because Tesla. We're just going to live with it.

Be a real shame if one of those batteries were to fail and propagate to all the rest. A real shame.

Need your opinion: I'm in the early stages of swapping my Model 3 for something more versatile.
I put on about 8K miles a year (the Model Y is our primary work horse when it comes to driving)
Let's say I theoretically went with the BMW X3 (need a backup dog car)
Option 1: Used (2018 BMW X3 xDrive30i Sports Activity Vehicle)
https://www.bmwofaustin.com/inventor...r9c55jlc80921/
MILEAGE: 42,065
PRICE: $36,271
Option 2: New (2022 BMW X3 sDrive30i)
https://www.bmwofsouthaustin.com/new...vdp-recentCars
PRICE: $47,990
Option 3: Wild Card (2019 BMW X3 M40i SAV)
https://www.bmwofaustin.com/inventor...s3c59k0z06777/
MILEAGE: 28,000
PRICE: 49,496
There's no smart money in this market, but part of me thinks the new model may actually be the best money at this time. The allure of the I6 is pretty strong, but I'm pretty nervous about owning a 4 year old BMW.
Thoughts? Anything else y'all recommend?

I wouldn't buy used - that market is a bubble just waiting to pop. If you can get the new one at MSRP, that would be my go to. But in my experience (and the main reason I decided to order a Tesla) is that many dealers have been advertising MSRP but toss on a market adjustment or irremovable accessories once you get to negotiating, so it's going to be a battle.

- I bought the Model 3 in 2020 as a lease. At the time, you couldn't buy out the lease but you COULD sell it to dealers as needed. In October 2021, Tesla stopped allowing us to sell our cars to a dealer and demand we give them the car back at the end of the lease. Here's the rub: Tesla is quoting me a return value of about $8k less than what the car is worth. At this point, I'm basically paying for depreciation which doesn't exist. While I understood Tesla wouldn't let me buy out the car, I was not aware Tesla wouldn't let me sell it to a dealer (in fact, at the time of purchase, Tesla WAS letting me sell to the dealer. It appears that policy has changed.
- Our Model Y has been in the shop a number of times for minor body work. In the meantime, I have basically been unable to take my 3 year old German shepherd anywhere. I can put him in the Model 3, but it is not a good or safe experience (He's a big boy - about 80 lbs).
- I had a horrible experience last time I road tripped my Tesla. The fact is, they are crap for basically anything going wrong on a road trip.
While I'm literally throwing money away on my Model 3, you bring up a good point. It is possible based on the current market this is still the best option for me but yeah, I'm just kind of over the 2 EV life for the moment.

I'm not trying to talk you out of selling the 3. IMO if you can get a new car at MSRP and get top dollar for your current car, it's a no-brainer.
We currently have a CR-V and my Golf (while we await the model 3). My Goldendoodle is 100lbs and he goes into the back seat of the Golf without issue if I need to take him somewhere. That's why I was wondering why you needed to get something larger as a backup dog car - but I understand wanting a road trip car that can take him as well.
The latest gen X3 is a great crossover. The M40 would obviously be a bit more fun but you cannot go wrong with the 30i.

The more I think about it, the more I want to wait. prices are just pretty silly.

I had a 2017 and while I liked it I would go with the newer body/interior. And coming from a Tesla I’d only want the X3 M40
butnyoull have to drive them and see.

I'm in the go for the new one camp too, as a non-BMW guy (would take a GLC instead
).
Lease again, if the numbers are good?

You tell me.
The
in me has always gone with the rule-of-thumb to never lease...then again, I understand that I keep my cars for 8+ years at least. So, if you're the type that likes to have a new minty car every year or so, yeah, I guess leasing is the way to go?

I've leased a vehicle once. It was dumb. Unless you have a business where you can write it off and upgrade every 2-3 years, (and even then, it's probably best to buy) it's pointless.

You might want to consider something bigger than the X3 if you want to comfortably take all of those around... Our 75lb golden retriever fits into my Tesla just fine alongside my daughter but there's no way all of those would be getting in the car at the same time.

Can confirm. If you're looking to travel with 220lbs worth of dogs, the X3 isn't for you. Around town isn't bad, but...
Honestly if you're just looking for a roadtrip car, it may be less expensive to simply rent an SUV or van for those trips.

Null and proud of it
I did not know that car manufacturers can force you to return your lease without a purchase option. That just seems like a bad business practice to me and leaves a sour taste in my mouth for the brand.
I agree, get you a side beater to bring your dog around in as others recommend. Hmmm. Maybe a 3G 4Runner? Because that old shit is still fire!
