few pics from Arizona S2000 meet this morning
Went for a little 200 mile cruise with these guys. I didn't stick around for the festivities afterwards so I didn't get any pics of the cars really.... it didn't seem like anyone had anything all that exciting anyway. I'd say 75% of the cars were completely stock, and the few with mods were minimal (mostly just exhaust).
It was a cool drive with nice scenery, and it was fun to roll with such a big group, but it was mostly an older crowd and they are pretty boring drivers. The organizer of the whole thing led the pack, and other than once or twice to pass trucks I dont think he ever went more than 5 mph over the speed limit. So after the initial thrill of it, it was just a 5 hour drive through the desert.

thank god I convinced my girlfriend to come with me or I would have been bored silly.
by the way, convincing a girl who has zero interest in cars to wake up at 530 on Saturday to drive in a 200 mile circle for no particular reason is not easy.

that can't be roosevelt, isn't roosevelt too far away...
I was thinking Bartlett Lake. who knows
The drive up to payson is awesome, I am making that next weekend before I leave Arizona.
Matt that looks awesome, and slightly gay all at the same time.

definitely fun roads, but I miss the real back roads on the east coast. even the windy side roads in the desert are 75 feet wide. I like the roads where the trees touch each other over your head
(first person to make a gay joke from touch each other gets a special prize)

you're girl is awesome. sounds like a keeper. I can't believe people weren't like WTF and just pass the dude. Perhaps because of the age of the people? Doesn't sound like the cops were around to harrass you. Not that i advocate crazy behavior.
i think once i get married....er a few months before i'm gonna go nuts and get a s2k

and yeah, I didn't want to go nuts, but I kind of expected to do a little speeding around. I guess it was the age of the group, I bet the average age was 40, with quite a few senior citizens... more 'sunday drivers' than 'enthusiasts'.
and a hell of a lot of dorky lookin dudes.

oh and in the beginning, the guy who organized this thing came up and told me the rules...
1. no passing on double yellow
2. no passing him (the 1st car)
then he gave me the hand signals.
hand in the air - we are stopping
fist in the air - something in the road
early on he put his fist up, so did the next 3 guys, so I did too... and it was a cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels in the road. :ghey:

nah, I really don't think it was a power thing, he didn't come off as a dick... just seemed like he was really trying to have a 'safe and responsible' style drive.
not my cup of tea, but hey what can ya do.
It was still a nice drive.

oh plus this thing was sponsored by a few local businesses, including the largest honda dealer in the US, so 75 jackasses buzzing around might not have reflected too well on them.

Damn, Arizona givin S2000 owners a bad name? j/k
I dunno, back east here the S2000 owners are older too than the crew of teens and 20-somethings I normally hang out with ... but they have some sick ass mods on their cars and they also drive pretty fast ...
When some S2000 owners showed up at the Arundell Mills meet AcuraZine held last December, the 2 guys that caravaned up there with us drove faster than most of us
http://www.axspot.com/WTD05.wmv
Check out that video for reference ... Some of the Mid-Atlantic guys doing some runs on the Dragon in North Carolina / Tennessee.
Guess its just a different crew in AZ ... still looks like it would have been fun.

I like those cars. In fact, when I was looking for a convertible, I drove an S2000 for about an hour and then drove a 350Z coupe. I went w/ the ZR and am glad I did. I am not small (6'2" 235) and the Honda was just too damn small. Not only that but I like the Z's styling better, that and not having to drive it at 7000K rpm just to get on the cam.

It doesn't really fix the size problems for you, but daily drivability wise, I find the S2000 to be fine. The 8000rpm redline kind of sucks compared to the old S2000's 8900rpm redline, but its still a blast to drive.

That meet sounds just like I would of pictured. Reading the Az section of the forum, those dudes are way too conservative.
I'd bet that if you went to a track day, you probably have a better time and you'd learn a thing or to, although there probably aren't any until fall.

conservative would be a huge understatement. paul harvey is too cutting edge for most of these folks. :killer:
here are some pics of my fellow drivers from the lunch thing they did afterwards, taken from s2ki site

Interesting meet...Just couldn't see myself taking a 200 mile drive and being bored as hell....Farthest drive I took was a CT meet, but I think it was more like 100 miles from me, and it was quite entertaining. Great car!
