Extended Warranty Coverage

Has anyone had any experience with companies like US Fidelis? I keep seeing commercials for extended warranties for cars under 15 years old and under 200,000 miles...Whats the catch with these guys? I actually did call them once to get a quote on my 2001 CL-S, and they told me 2000 bucks for 4 years of coverage which sounded really reasonable to me...Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I bought a 1 year one time for like 650 bucks and I had the starter go out like 3 days after I bought the car and they covered the repairs.

Depending on what type you get they cover almost everything that isn't normal wear/tear like rotors/brakes etc.

I don't know exactly how they make money I guess when people wreck the cars or sell them the coverage drops as people usually don't give a shit about xfering them to a new owner. You can usually expect 2k in work on an older car over the course of 4 years.

... I'm rambling now... anyway I've done it before and made my money back you really should consider how long you plan to own the car and make sure you comb through the coverage to make sure it looks pretty comprehensive.

Yeaa, I mean, almost everyone that has had to pay for their transmission replacement in the forums has spent anywhere from 2500 to 3500, so I don't understand why people don't just at least consider getting this coverage?

Let this thread smolder for a few days. I'm sure you'll have some more reviews come in.

My only experience with an extended warranty was bad, very bad. I had wynns extended warranty. One of the provisions was that you call them and get any work approved, they usually took several days to get back to me, all the while my car would be sitting in the shop. Plus since all work had to be approved BEFORE they STARTED work on the car, any work they did to diagnose the problem was not covered. Plus EVERY little extra thing they found you had to call and wait for approval, or it was not covered. So say you have a worn bearing, if while they are under there they discover it's not a only a bearing, it's a tie rod, they have to immediately stop all work, and YOU have to call the warranty company for approval for more work, which takes them several days more.

I will never get another extended warranty.

Yea you'll definitely want to make sure you know their procedures as far as having work done.
