exotic car rentals in vegas..
searched back, but the last thread was back in '05. I'll be goin to vegas again this August, and looking to rent a few cars with my buddies. I wanted to get real world, recent feedback from companies serving the vegas area that rent out 430s and gallardos. price margins are very close throughout all competitors, eg. 1100/day for a 360 spyder, 1300/day for a gallardo spyder, I'm looking more for legitimacy and professionalism.

Good question!
Finally a valid vegas thread...
OP, let us know what you come up with. This sounds like fun!
Other than cruising the strip looking for 19 year olds from the Midwest, are there cool places to drive where you can do some 'spirited' driving around LV? I have never driven so I don't know the roads.

I wonder if they put a speed limiter on it? I can see people renting on in Vegas driving like an ass and wrecking it. Probably happens often, hence the speed limiter would help prevent that. Throttle limiter too would help.

I recently did this when I had to go down to flordia for work ( I am Somebodys Personal Driver so where he goes I go ) This guys life is Gravy lets just say, we rented a 430 spider...theres a bunch of questions you have to ask the company before you rent from them... most of there advertised prices are for weekday rates and not the weekend... Also the guy that dropped the car off to us at the airport said we were allotted 125 miles a day!!! that was not enough seeing that we went from west palm to just outside miami twice.. and if you rent on the weekend theres was a 2 day minimum... It was alot of fun cause i didnt have to pay a dime but read the fine print on these contracts and ask these questions when you go to reserve a car cause renting an expensive car comes expensive fees for over milage and such... good luck and keep us updated on what you decide to rent

well i have a few months to research... so far
http://www.dreamcarrentals.com/
is right off the strip .. (probably staying at paris or bellagio) from my research they do offer additional insurance you pay on top of the car, but you have to contact your current car insurer to make sure they can provide coverage (would also need to have liability+comp+collision, in other words full cvg.) I'm def getting it on a weekday, no reason to be stuck in traffic on the strip and freeway on a fri/sat . they also impose usually 100-150 mileage limits. some even limit in-state, out of state driving. Most if not all restrict any driving into mexico there's an additional driver fee. gotta bring it with a full tank of gas or they'll charge you $8/gal.
speed / throttle limiter?? don't piss on my party just yet haha. I doubt it. They probably just have enough insurance to cover the cost of the car twice over
It'll be me and two other buddies, so it won't hurt to try and ask for a group deal as well as cash deal. I'm sure they're hurting cashflow wise. I'm hunting out spots to drive and really test the car, probably lurk around the strip, and get some in-n-out burgers.. hopefully the entourage will be f430, gallardo, and an SLR. gonna stockup on memory cards for a disgusting amt of pictures and looking into an HD camcorder to tape the experience.
btw. i don't think u have to be well off to have 1.5-3k available, esp for something most people dream of.. and many never experience. rates in the tri state area are 3x's as much, and the roads are 3x's crappier. It'll also discourage me from spending it at SR like last time... their breakfast buffet is banging btw.
it's gonna be an expensive weekend... but if no one can comment on certain companies, maybe some driving spots away from the strip and nowhere near a desert? They're pretty picky about driving near sand.

Ive always wanted to do this! not only rent an exotic but go to vegas.. 32 yrs old and NEVER been!
Can i come?? ha jk! tho i could help out on the total bill....
I had looked into renting a viper last summer since my then fiance loved the car. was going to surprise her with it after the wedding, u know when everything is over and u walk out to the car to leave? yeah thot would be cool to do but closest rental was in chicago and im in indianapolis. they were going to charge me like 1700 for 3 days and like 500 miles iirc. PLUS 700 to deliver the car back n forth to me. then a 2500 security deposit. so hell id need $5k avail on my cc which after about 8k in wedding expense i sure as shit didnt have!
keep us updated tho on what u find out and/or do!! I'd love to sit my happy ass down in a f430 and of course not to mention drive the damned thing. def worth 1-1.5k to me even if just for a day.

It'd be cheaper to get a day at a racing school, plus guaranteed opportunities to open the car up.

I have looked into it a few times and just didn't make sense to me. Cars are expensive to rent, mileage is very limited, and you are on the hook for any little thing that can go wrong. Deposit is usually pretty large too. Just didn't make sense. You can rent a premium car from Hertz like the Vette or Mustang (if they're still doing either) for a fraction of the price.
If you want to drive an exotic, either go to a track day or do one of those driving tour things. Both are much better ideas then renting IMO...

It's not a F355 but then again you can actually enjoy the GT-H without worrying about some idiot running a stop sign.

According to Shelby's site, they had GT-Hs at the Las Vegas airport available for rental through Hertz. Don't know if they still do but a convertible GT-H isn't a bad way to go.

Then do a track day or driving experience with exotics another time...

Now, the drive on I 15 is wide open, but it is Cali/LV traffic. But you could try US 95, heading out to the prison, and past the AFB in Indian Springs. But don't get a flat tire out there..... That would suck.

oh I should mention - this is borderline obvious - but if you don't have any considerable prior experience driving cars like those (Viper, Ferrari), I would NOT recommend renting those. Especially if they are stick. (All Vipers = stick, many Ferraris = stick... although most newer ones are auto). A rental is not the time to learn how to drive a car like that.

good point, I did consider that, but how difficult would it be? the most exotic car I've driven would be an M5, so I don't know how that would warrant itself for degrees of driving experience. most rentals are via paddle shifters. I wouldn't rent a Viper simply because I'm scared of it. I've read the ferrari 360/430 and gallardos would be the easiest of the majority of exotics that are pretty much point and drive. as long as i take it easy and only open it up on large wide stretches of highway, I assume i won't end up wrapped around a pole.
if my buddy who thinks up-shifting would engine brake the car to a stop can drive a quattroporte, then i'm pretty sure i can navigate a ferrari
this is a great idea. thank you.

I don't know your driving habits, you may be a very safe driver for all I know - or maybe you are a maniac driver - I think I'm just doing some CYA.
I was mainly talking for manual trans cars - these are some seriously fast cars, esp the newer ones. If its auto, it's not nearly as big a challenge. The high-hp MT exotics need to be rubbed the right way, the more experience you have the less likely you'll lose control of em. Kinda obvious there. And I sure don't want to read a story about how you rented one of those and ditched it somewhere in the desert.
360 / 430 F1 and Gallardo E-gear should be fine, if you haven't driven a car that fast before just make sure you take some time to get used to it.
