Escort 8500 X50 Problem

I have had the above radar detector for about two years and it has been great... but I now notice some odd things. The Laser alarm will sometimes go off for no apparent reason. In addition... when I blow the horn, the laser indicator activates... if I switch to city mode it is fine, but on auto or highway, this is a repeatable problem.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks... I have sent Escort a note, hopefully they can fix my unit. Was yours still on warranty?

The Inifinti FX, if so equipped, has a laser controlled cruise control safety feature. If it's behind or approaching you, it would set your laser detector off.

My 8500 goes off in certain toll booths with EZ-Pass. Other than that, she's saved me a ton of $$ and points over the past 3 or so years.

Maybe I don't use the horn that much, but I never noticed this on my 01 CLS. Anyway, I finally heard back from Excort and this is "normal" and that it occurs on the "more sophisticated" cars. They did offer to put in more shielding to prevent this issue but also said that it would reduce the sensitivity. What would be the point of that?

Out of interest, I tried it in wife's TL... and had no false activation with horn

More specifically, it's when the brake lamp is activated that the laser detector cries wolf. I've been behind Trailblazers at a light, and the idiot driver is constantly on-off-on-off the brakes. Dumb SUV pricks, I'd like to give em a taste of their own medicine...
