Drivers giving you dirty looks

is learning to moonwalk i
Here's how I handle it:
1) If I'm the driver being overtaken, I move over as soon as I can for the faster moving traffic so we can both get on with our lives.
2) If I'm the overtaking driver, and the person doesn't move over, I will pass him on the right and get on with my life.
Passing on the right, while not ideal, is still safer than indulging in any form of road rage. Dirty looks, single finger gestures, flashing lights, etc... none of that will make the person change their ways so I'm not going to stress over it when my safety and the safety of those around me should be my primary concern.

Also, the no passing on the right was meant for two lane roads (i.e. one in each direction). You're supposed to use the oppising traffic lane to pass rather than the shoulder. This doesn't really apply to multilane highways and freeways. This doesn't mean that slow idiots don't need to move over, but it gives you options.

Trying to prove a point with regards to speed is plain stupid. That goes for going too fast or going too slow relative to traffic .

the worst was, for you you back off a bit and find a hole and go on your way. At times I would be 110-120' and 120,000lbs, manuvering with anything less than intimidation wasnt usually an option

This thread is hilarious. Now I know how some people think when they drive, though I'm still unable to comprehend it. It's scary how some people just focus only on what's in front of them when they're driving, and only look to their sides or behind them when they want to change lanes.
I'm not an angry person by any means but I think if I saw some fuck going 45 in the fast lane and all of a sudden they lost control and went into a ditch, I'd laugh.
I live in Cali, but you know, sometimes...

But I'll usually make a point to switch lanes back, right in front of them and may need to wash my windshield, too.

As for the OP, some states are cracking down on people slowing down the left lane. The article even says that they can and will ticket you if you are going the speed limit or under in the left if you aren't actively passing.

Actually, you are never supposed to pass on the right regardless of the road. It is especially dangerous to pass trucks on the right.

Come to Louisiana..... "who the fuck gave you a license! seriously!? holy shit! wtf!?, really!?" . It's like the depths of hell of bad drivers!
Imagine, tons of assholes playing cards, txt-ing, filling out welfare apps, blowing their cousin, driving a car ... IN THE LEFT HAND FUCKING LANE as far as the eye can see.
Welcome to my morning commute

You will have a hard time convincing me that it's more dangerous to just pass Joe Oblivious on his right than to try and remotely bend him to my will through various antics behind him.

To the OP, Fuck off. Get into the right lane and get out of the mentality that if someone is riding your ass, maintain speed at all cost
I deliver 5 days a week.. Hold on let me get my flame suit on(Im in college so gimme a break)
But anywho its all day everyday, people like the op always in a miniva/prius/corrola/2009 Acura TL. Who find it their absolute duty to drive side by side going 35 in a 35. The roads in my town are mostly 2 lanes which is nice but are useless to people like me who like to do 5 to 10 over the speed limit.
Over time i have found the secret to dealing with these morons, simply hang back DO NOT ride their ass as they get a little hot boner when they know they are in your way. eventually one will actually move and create a gap and thats when i pounce like a liger and pass with my VTACHHHH roaring which also usually startles them, its a lot more rewarding than giving the finger imho.
Also during the holidays around here people find it necessary to go 15 in a 30, i had to pass a line of 5 cars out of sheer frustration.
I do try to look at the drivers though, if they are elderly i have mercy and just kick back and put on cruise control.
/end rant

I'm fairly confident its an all around thing, left is for passing, right is for people who do the speed limit. At least that's how I was always taught.

One on the right for me
I don't think that is right, especially because left turns are pretty common. Can't make them on the freeway though.

I love this thread!
During school season, I drive 250 miles a week to and from school (95% on highway I90/94)
...and on top of that if this thread needs any further verification: I just went to traffic school yesterday to get a ticket off my record (i am NOT proud of this). BUT this very subject came up, AND the educated professor promoting "SAFE and CORRECT" driving even said get the fuck out of the left lane for faster drivers!
i quote the professor: "you may be driving fast and/or aggressive, but remember: you are NOT the only one on the road. there will always be someone faster or more aggressive than you on the road!"
NOTE: with my 24,000+ miles of CITY highway driving under my belt, I must also agree with many in this thread: it really isn't worth it at the end of the day, just do what you have to do to avoid yours and others road rage and get where you need to go...but still, the ignorance of people on the road is amazing!

well highway driving is fast paced, etc ,ect....highway driving in the City (in Chicago which is what i am referring to) is letting people merge on from the 90, 290, 55 highways; letting people merge from the Left side on ramps as you get to the city; seeing lanes randomly end and causing traffic jams, etc....all on top of idiot drivers...welcome to Chicago City Highway Driving...

Oh. I thought it was referring to highways running through the city, but are still actually highway. SF doesn't have that because somehow they didn't think to plan it that way. Huge pain in the ass.

But we aren't discussing passing trucks, which are generally prohibited from the passing lane, and which are generally populated by better trained drivers than the average joe. We're primarily discussing cars.

He's not coming back. His sole purpose was to come over here and stir the pot. That's cool, we haven't had anything in a while to get my goat up - no offense Terry.
Hey! We can always drift on over to the 4G section? They are after all very sensitive about the utility / wanna-be-transformers-with-that-grill kind of car they all love so much. Wouldn't take much....... (I'm not condoning this)
To top all this off - last night I had a fucking PT Cruiser (which guys should NEVER be seen driving) not only cruising at the same speed as the car on the right, but once he/she/it realized I wanted to get around made it a point to block me by shifting to the right and staying parallel with the car on the left.
Bitch almost died.
Eventually we get to a traffic light on a small incline (by which time she's behind me). I shifted to neutral and was so fucking tempted to let my car roll backwards into the front of hers, then get out and scream bloody murder about her aggressive driving and ultimately rear ending me! I did let it roll back a bit - the look on her face was priceless.
But serenity won.

I love it when drivers have to get in front of everyone so they zig zag in and out of lanes while I stay in my one lane, then a couple miles later they get boxed in behind a slow car and I pass them, then I look over and them and smile and say to myself "hahaah fucking idiot"

I may not always be more dangerous to pass on the right, but it is in fact illegal even on highways. Here in PA you can get ticketed for it, in fact my grandfather was ticketed for it. Hell the entire interstate here has signs that say pass left, slower traffic keep right or something to that affect.

Some idiot was driving 50 in a 55 in the left lane today.
And do you guys agree that faster drivers are safer and more aware than slower drivers?
Slow drivers clog up traffic, and can cause rear end collisions.
Fast drivers are more aware of their surroundings and pay attention to what they are doing, and get out of the way quickly.
I'd rather have to deal with the guy in the BMW blowing past me at 70 than the grandma going 45.

If there is one thing that all americans can agree on, it's that we think of ourselves as above average drivers.
My grandfather always told me, the key to being safe on the road, is to assume everyone else is an idiot and doesn't know what they are doing
