Only when it comes to giving advice.. you guys always recommend the Hyundai/KIA that is dull as a doormat to drive. When it's time for your own purchases it's all leased Infinitys and financing used German cars.

His being 41 and single goes way beyond his choice of vehicle...

Right. Because my self-esteem is predicated upon satisfying my codependency.

I think there is more to the issue at hand...such as finding a woman (or maybe a man) who actually wants to be co-dependent with you in the first place.

Seems like a pretty gigantic haystack to me...

Who would anyone want to be codependent? I have no interest in the relationship paradigm most of the people I know exist within.

Not that you give a shit what I think or why I'm single. But you're making assumptions and have no basis to make them.

Welcome to the internet.

After all this time I never would have guessed you were such a sensitive little flower, golly.

If you live and work in Manhattan, I don't even really see the point in having a car. Maybe try selling it and going without one for a little while? You can always go back out and buy a cheaper one tomorrow if you find that becomes intolerable, but the point I get from your post is that you feel the nice car is kind of wasteful and unnecessary, and that you're possibly bored with it anyway but aren't sure what to replace it with. So I think it's a reasonable suggestion.

With a Civic as a unique car, you'll hate yourself.

However, there are way to get satisfied in the way. At 7K/year you are an excellent candidate for a older car. Your TL already took the major hit of depreciation.... it just seems that you are bored with it. What is your target $ per month?

If you think its a big car then buy yourself something smaller but nice, like a 2 seater. (corvette,Viper, etc)

Why would you finance an Infinty? StonedCL says you should only lease.

Also, I should have added American muscle to the Car Talk purchase list.

Here is the big question that no one has asked the OP yet!

When YOU drive, in manhattan, to visit your parents, etc. what do you want from the car? A comfy soft ride? A sporty, fast car? Something that hauls ass or something that can fit into the crowd?

Personally, if you didn't drive that much and wanted to better invest your money, get something used that is what YOU want. Take 10-15K and invest it in a used car that can get the job done as nicely as your TL.

Personally, If I were in your situation I would consider a few of these cars:

1. Honda Fit
2. Honda Civic
3. Toyota Corolla

They are small, good on gas mileage, fairly comfy to drive and have a decent amount of power. You can take that 10K and use it to pay off any credit card debit you may have, pay of loans, etc. Hell invest it and at least make some money off it! When you have the need for a nicer car, that's when you can spend the money.

In all honesty, I'm nearing the same issue with my 760. It's a great car to have but do I really need it, nope. I can trade in on a used RL/TL and pocket a decent amount of money that I can use for bills and other things. I'm only putting 8K a year on it as it is, and it's sitting in my garage loosing value faster than 95% of other cars.

Just beware, whatever "new" car you decide to get, make sure the insurance is cheaper on it! People think that a new car will automatically have cheaper insurance, and in NYC it add's up FAST!!!

Wait your TL is already worth 23k??

If thats true do not sell it. Whats the point. You will sell it, buy a new car and maybe save a couple thousand dollars to put somewhere else? Shoot if you option up your civic you will probably be paying that much with TTL.

Don't sell it and downgrade. I see no reason to at all. You're not saving money. Maybe a couple hundred a year on maintenance, probably not even that much. The TL will last forever already. I have a 00'TL, the one with all the issues and its lasted me 12 years with no major issue. First thing big thing that needed to be changed was the radiator, and that was only a couple hundred bucks anyway.

So i dont see why everyone else is saying to sell it when you wont save that much money anyway. And your short drives will be a hell of a lot more comfortable.

had the 05 TSX 6MT brand new, and now drive a used 00 Odyssey and 01 Pathfinder.

changes i've went through:

- much prefer cloth to leather seats.
- was pissed off when i found out how much my car was officially worth when i sold it in 2011, and decided to never buy new again.
- i've been looking at cars dated < 2004, specifically BB6 5MT, AP1, EM1, 4Runners, Land Cruisers.

If you do downgrade, buy used with low miles. Let someone else take the depreciation hit of driving a new car off the lot. I've never bought new and unless I win the lottery or marry a sugar mama like Whiskers, I never will.
