Double Clutching........
1) Put the clutch in and pull the shifter into neutral
2) Release the clutch and rev the engine to match the speed needed for the gear you're about to select
3) Put the clutch back in and select the gear.
4) Release the clutch and keep driving.
Synchronizers have removed the need to double clutch.

I was watching "Fast and Furious" the other night and they kept saying that.

thats not even why I asked this question. I hope no one thinks I take that movie literally.... I work in the freight industry and the truckers said something about double clutching when they drive. I didnt really know what that meant. We all know Vin Diesel doesnt know what it means either

This used to be necessary back in the day before modern synchros were added to transmissions to keep your transmission from eating itself alive. Nowadays, there should be no reason whatsoever to double clutch if you're using the heel-toe technique during downshifts.

i wondered what it meant too after seeing that movie. I looked it up online and then thought "what the hell is he talking about that for in a straight line race?" It sounded good at first, but once i knew what it meant, it took away the effect. But hearing "i live my life a quarter mile at a time" still gives me goose bumps.

ech the first movie wasn't that bad, had some redeaming factors, [meening alot of those cars were really nice], 2nd one is just horrible, the Skyline/Eva Mendles/Yenko Camaro/ 426 Hemi Challenger Combo barley manages to make it rental worthy... I cant wait for the 3rd one
double clutching is usually a highly debated topic... sure, it's really not needed...some people still do it to save the longevity of their syncros...I personally just do it when downshifting from 5th to 4th (just to be safe-avoiding accidently shifting to 2nd). I always rev-match when downshifting though.
