1) Put the clutch in and pull the shifter into neutral
2) Release the clutch and rev the engine to match the speed needed for the gear you're about to select
3) Put the clutch back in and select the gear.
4) Release the clutch and keep driving.

Synchronizers have removed the need to double clutch.

Nah not really common knolege outside the car enthusiest world, unless your quoting the fast and the furious

Hell, sometimes I dont think people even realise that things like a stick shift exist, I love it when your on a hill and someone gets right up on ur ass

Was driving my dads car and stoped by some party, and was flurting w/this girl, took her outside to "show her the car", and some other stuff , but anyway after hooking up for a little bit she asked what the third petals for!!!!!!

(the car a**holes, i only have 2 of those)

The reference in F&F is completely wrong and makes no sense. Who the hell would double cluth their upshifts in a drag race.

thats not even why I asked this question. I hope no one thinks I take that movie literally.... I work in the freight industry and the truckers said something about double clutching when they drive. I didnt really know what that meant. We all know Vin Diesel doesnt know what it means either

This used to be necessary back in the day before modern synchros were added to transmissions to keep your transmission from eating itself alive. Nowadays, there should be no reason whatsoever to double clutch if you're using the heel-toe technique during downshifts.

What if i do not release clutch but press and hold on Step 2 and rev the engine? Will i get the same result? I stll follow Step 1, 3 and 4. Thanks.

Not quite. The purpose of releasing the clutch in neutral is to allow the input and output shafts to synchronize before you place the transmission into gear. If you don't release the clutch while in neutral, you're just shifting normally, except rev-matching. You should be doing this anyway.

then you probably saw 3/4 of it. Mia was hot though.

i wondered what it meant too after seeing that movie. I looked it up online and then thought "what the hell is he talking about that for in a straight line race?" It sounded good at first, but once i knew what it meant, it took away the effect. But hearing "i live my life a quarter mile at a time" still gives me goose bumps.

Many large trucks don't have modern synchros, therefore making double-clutching necessary.

ech the first movie wasn't that bad, had some redeaming factors, [meening alot of those cars were really nice], 2nd one is just horrible, the Skyline/Eva Mendles/Yenko Camaro/ 426 Hemi Challenger Combo barley manages to make it rental worthy... I cant wait for the 3rd one

double clutching is usually a highly debated topic... sure, it's really not needed...some people still do it to save the longevity of their syncros...I personally just do it when downshifting from 5th to 4th (just to be safe-avoiding accidently shifting to 2nd). I always rev-match when downshifting though.

Which version was the one where he ran a 10 sec quarter mile, but still had time to execute a three stage program on his laptop- ( sorry if the details are off, but I think that was the idea )WTF? And I think that is the same one where he blew the engine, but managed to pick up Vin Diesel and then outrun the cops..

I have to double-clutch my Accord (when downshifting) because the synchros are shot. I always rev-match the CL when downshifting... saves the clutch.
