Damn Shoofin'.... great thread. I don't know why I never considered contacting you when it comes car time... but I'll definitely have to hit you up. I could make a trip out of it... visit some friends/family in NY, pickup the car and drive it home. Definitely will hit you up when the time comes!!
For now, great thread with great info

Nothing is perfect though...Just this week I was walking around a car that I had interest in, it didn't look like it had paint work, the meter confirmed it, and when I went to the block to attempt a bid, saw the car announced as having unibody (frame) damage. My thinking was that either the entire car was repainted, or every panel was replaced, because the paint thickness was very consistent around the entire car.

Couldn't the actual BODY have been fine, but it had frame or suspension damage, such as from being ditched, run over a sewer, etc.? In that case it might look fantastic, but the question would be "how does it drive", and I assume you can't test drive them before bidding, right? ![Scared](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/scared.gif)
![Scared](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/scared.gif)
![No No](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/nono.gif)
The actual body was fine. It didn't have any significant damage on it at all. The paint meter didn't pick up any irregularities, which was why I was so surprised to see that it was announced as frame. It could have been a mistake, who knows
![Dunno](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif)
HOWEVER, if it isn't declared as frame and I buy a car and notice frame damage after purchasing, I can arbitrate it and back out of the deal immediately.

I sold the S4, the '04 Accord V6, the 06 and 07 Odyssey and the 01 BMW so far..
BUT, 2 cars that I'm going to be taking in soon, one is a 2008 Honda Pilot SE (It's essentially a loaded car with rear entertainment but it doesn't have leather) with I think 13k miles if I remember, it is Black on Grey.
Second car i'm leaning more towards letting someone else take it in, it's an '09 Subaru Legacy SE with 2k miles on it. Customer leased it 6 months ago and has no need for it anymore..
Any takers?

I'll see what I can do...I haven't been buying as much as i've been selling. I have a small property to sell out of, I had so many cars I had to start parking them up in other locations by friends to make room! I was planning to go to the auction yesterday but I got caught up at work and couldn't go. I hope to go next week..
I sold the S4, the '04 Accord V6, the 06 and 07 Odyssey and the 01 BMW so far..

I haven't seen the car yet, but I'm told it's in mint condition, no dents/dings or scratches of any sort. It's a 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5i SE, and it's Black in color. The person has the car in a 36 month lease, she used 6 months of it so far and has no need for the car anymore. It has 2,000 miles on it. If interested, please let me know ASAP, as I'm leaning more towards giving it to my Subaru dealer to let them buy it because I think they will have an easier time selling it than me. As for pricing, I want to say it's probably going to be around $18k or so.
I know it's hard to take my word for it w/o seeing any pics, but when I do see it, you know how picky I am, so you know how I will deal with these things..
Let me know..

Here's the window sticker to the one I sold CLICK
Not so expensive, either..Interesting drive, not too powerful, but pretty roomy for its size.

Shoofin,
What happens to the cars that are not sold ? Do they go back to the dealer/bank or do they get on next week's auction ?
Also, does American Honda have reserve prices on their off-lease cars ?
Thanks for the insights !!

They don't have a reserve that is advertised, but there is a representative from Honda on the block that determines to the auctioneer if the bid isn't high enough, and the car is a "no-sale"

Soooo I went to the auction today in search of a Ford Escape for someone. There were a few I had my eyes on but this one was one of the nicest, a 2004 XLT with 39k miles and not a scratch on it:

Every Escape I tried bidding on went for about $2,000 over wholesale book, which I found to be nuts. I found nothing that made $$ sense to me, and I needed a car to go home with (I got a ride with someone in anticipation of bringing home that Ford) until I decided to get this:

Also saw this one, and it was a "no sale". It maxed out about $1300 less than mine, but it had 38k miles on it. My car has 14k miles.

The drive on the highway was interesting, although 80mph in it is a bit scary. The car gets there easily but has a hard time holding that speed. When you pass anything, you feel it, as the wind/aerodynamics around you pushes the car away from the car that you're passing. Once I got onto another highway where the speed was more maintained at 50-65mph, the car felt fine, relaxed and cool. The transmission is a sequential automatic, feels a bit like BMW's SMG only a lot more crude. You feel the clutch engaging when you start moving, and you feel the pull back and push forward through every shift. Took a little getting used to. Bottom line it's not a car I'd want to drive every day. But it is something that's quirky and fits in damn near any parking spot you can find, something I greatly appreciate having in Brooklyn. So as of now i'm unsure if I'm going to keep it or sell it.
A few other cars I took random pics of:

Shoofin,
If no ride, get a cab to take you to the Hamilton NJ train station for NJ Transit's service into Penn Station NY.
How many bidders were there for your new chariot ?

Can I get your opinion on something else? Being the "car guy" at work, they put me on the job of locating a new(ish) cargo van, and I picked it up today, a 2005 Savana cargo 4.8L V8 with 63k and the dealer had even swapped on a set of those sweet billet looking 8-lug alloys you normally see on Duramaxs. They wanted 10,900 and "retail" value from the usual sources was in that area, I knew where we had to be considering the cost of the paint & graphics we need to do, and was pushing for 8500. They were pretty firm at 9100 (they had spent 1100 on it in their shop) but we ended up taking it at 8700 fees included. The thing drives just like new so I'm happy with the deal. ANYWAY while I was picking it up, I got to looking at this over the top Explorer conversion with FOUR rows, 3 of which are captains chairs. Apparently they are very rare and 60,000 new, the one they have is low 40s, way out of the question, but THEN I got to looking over this one, a Regency conversion:

......it is literally the slickest, cleanest used vehicle I've ever seen - the paint is like it was done at the Mercedes factory, and the interior is just as nice. I am PICKY and I went over it thoroughly. It's a 2004 with 65k, but really looks like 20k miles. 5.3L V8, flawless chrome 18s with new Goodyears, both front seats power & heat, all the entertainment gadgets, etc. My question is, with a conversion, how do you gauge the value? How does the bank figure it? All you can really "look up" are cargo and factory passenger versions. Anyway I am feeling like they are shooting me a killer price on this one, I get the idea they've had it awhile.....they have it priced at 21,900 but he said I could buy it for 15,800. He also suggested I drive it for a long weekend. So two questions.....does that seem like a deal, and how would my bank even go about valuing it for a loan? THANKS!

PS - i dig the Smart, keep wanting to test drive one. And that Escape was NICE, I used to have one and it was great. That one has the special factory sport/rack pkg, I forget what it was called, All Sport or something - actually that was Mazda but something like that. Those are also my favorite wheels on an Escape. But $2k over book at auction, man I gave the guy that bought mine too good a deal

Also, as for the ride, I'd rather buy a car and deal with the consequences (potentially) than have to take trains from there. It's about 90 miles away from my office, that would make for a VERY long train ride..

They gave it a decent score for the condition (4.4 out of a possible 5.0). Though it doesn't look as nice as the one you have an offer for.
What I would say is that their offer is decent, though there might be some room for negotiation. As for insurance and financing for it, some companies may have a problem with insuring or financing it, as they see it as more of a liability when they see the potential of many people being in a van, then they question what it's being used for, and it goes on and on. That's the experience i've had when selling or leasing 12-15 passenger vans, at least.
Good Luck!
