Do you think wagons will make a comeback?

I know that the death of the SUV will be imminent here in the USA in a few years. So, does that mean that wagons will come back into popularity like it did in the 80s and early 90s?

I wish that Honda brought over the Euro Accord tourer and make that an Acura TSX avant like Audi does with an A4 and A6 Avant.

I hope so. I've always loved wagons, especially those that were both functional and fun to drive. As fuel prices continue to escalate but the need for functionality remains constant I can see wagons making a comeback, especially those which are entertaining to drive.

I've always loved wagons. As Terry said, especially those who are spacious and entertaining to drive. BMW should import both the 335i and M5 in their wagons form.

I don't think so. 5-door hatchbacks are what's "in" now. Or at least, automakers are going to market them as hatchbacks. The average consumer tends to associate "wagon" with "soccer mom" which is a

I would say "Yes" on the wagon, and Yes... large SUVs are if not already on the decline in sales... but small-mid SUVs will still be around for awhile.

SUVs arent going anywhere. People think they need them like they think they need AWD.

Plus im sure the parents here can vouch that its easier to get kids in and out of a SUV than a wagon.

my dad has a major thing for wagons. He just moved from a 03' passat wagon into an 06' 530xiT.

I agree with everyone else though and think they can make a come back in the form of more sport wagons ie. mazda 3 5door, audi a3, etc.. I would love to see more offerings from the japanese makers.
I don't think the big station wagon will make a comeback, and the 'crossover' suv will be around for a while.

I always loved wagons. Magnum SRT8, S4 Avant, and Impreza WRX wagons are my favorites.
at the Euro Accord wagon, I'd rock it as well.

My mom got a Subaru Forester and I tried convincing her to get a 328 wagon, but she said she didn't want to drive a 'wagon'

It's all about what automakers call them. 'Wagon' = out, 'Crossover' = in

I hope so. We're going to need to switch to something with a hatch and lots of trunk space soon, and I'd much prefer a wagon over a CUV/SUV. We've already test driven a few options, and the only wagon we could think of checking out (in our price range) was the Passat. Just not a lot of choices.

They are already are making a comeback... Subaru Outback, Forester, etc... All the "crossovers" out there are nothing but tall wagons... People have issues with owning a wagon, so automakers call 'em crossover vehicles... Heck, most of the Volvo's out there are station wagons... And most hatchbacks are just smaller versions of a wagon (mazda 3 hatch, vw hatches, etc)...

If the Accord Tourer (wagon) were in the US, I'd buy it. The Audi A3 and A4 Avant are very appealing, but reliability is an issue for me. Same for the 328 wagon, plus the price is not nice.

When it comes time to have a family, I don't want an SUV or minivan. I hate driving huge vehicles like that, plus the fuel economy sucks ass. I wish Honda had a wagon here.

I think it fits well for a group of people. I see single folks more likely to buy an SUV instead of a station wagon. But married folks with one kid, looking to get something better on gas and not being a fan of minivans may still run out and get a sport wagon.

I would much rather have a wagon than a minivan or SUV. It's got a good percent of the people/stuff hauling capability but will be so much more fun to drive.

I have a wagon right now and I had one before that (both Mazda3 variants) and I love their utility and that they are cars and not floppy CUV/SUVs.

Every time I think about replacing my Mazdaspeed3 with a coupe I realize that just that week I did one or two things with it that I'd have never been willing or able to do with a coupe or sedan.

To add to the mini-van/SUV/wagon debate. My wife had a Yukon that we got rid of and got an Odyssey. I hate mini-vans, but that thing is way easier to cart kids and dogs around in than the Yukon was. I hate to admit it, but at 22mpg vs 12, combined with how easy it is to cart stuff and kids around, the van rocks. It has way more room inside than the Yukon did. Sure do miss that Flowmaster V8 sound though.......Good thing I have a TL for me

I love wagons/avants/sport backs or whatever you want to call them these days. My RL is going bye-bye soon, but I've already bought an AWD replacement in the meantime...

I think Subies and Audi's show you don't have to have a dull and boring wagon. Especially with the Subie, hmmm....bigger turbo....yum.

Nope, the Saab 9-2x is a clone of the Impreza WRX Wagon. It's often called the "Saabaru".
