When I dropped my Santa Fe off to have the front windows tinted to match the rear, I had to sign a waiver clearing the tint shop of any legal responsibility as they were beyond the legal limit. The guy behind the counter told me he's had people come in and tell them, "You know you can get stopped by the police for having it that dark?" And they respond, "I am the police."

So much for lead by example.

go there print the form take it to your doctor, have them sign it mail it to the address on the form and they send you a card.

if you ever get stopped, show the cop the card they let you go immediately
I doesnt seem like i would have any of the conditions listed on this form... am i supposed to lie? if you dont mind me asking, which of them are you "diagnosed" with?

persistent light reactivity. the thing is, i never bothered to go before because i thought they wouldnt believe me because of my age or how i looked. however, because of my rly light eyes (light blue almost gray)

i was informed that this could cause sensitivity and be the cause of headaches and such which sucks to get when youre driving 7 hrs between NC and NJ which i have done often. i dont get a second look here in nc, but when im in nj i get stopped immediately. so now i have a medical excuse. its a lot more noticeable when i go from my car to someone elses car, its really annoying. (the glare from the sun)

i hate to wear sunglasses dont like the way they feel on me and they are more of a nuisance than anything, so this is a good solution. as for lying, you could lie, its not really something they can prove, and most likely they will sign it for you with no problem. just go to your regular physician and complain of aforementioned symptoms.

i dont condone lying however i dont really care thats your personal choice haha let us know what you decide to do though.

i had tints on my tl for 2 yrs before i got my first ticket... its a law... and if you decide to break it by putting tints on your car, there is no way you will win the battle saying that if cops can have it why can't you... same reason they can run red lights and speed and you can't... it is bs yes... but deal with it or become a cop...

i have taken my tints off because i don't want to give a bored cop a reason to pull me over... from discussions with a few of my friends that are cops, if they pull over a car that has tints on it, it usually isn't for the tints... they are looking to see if you are doing anything suspicious behind those tints... if you are nice and they find nothing they will usually let you go... if you are mean or they are in a pissy mood and they find nothing, you will get a tint ticket...
I think this is generally true. I've been pulled over for my tint three times, and ticketed once. The first two times I was given a verbal warning and let go. The third time I got a ticket and I guess it really was just for the tint, because I was cordial and respectful as I always am, but sure enough, $136 later I have my first tint ticket.

Not bad for over two years, though.

One night on my way back to campus from Dunkin donuts at around 145am..I passed a cop sitting in a speed trap. I wasn't speeding.. at all. he followed me 8 minutes back to campus, and the second i pulled into my schools driveway, I got pulled over for "driving too close to the yellow line" when i asked for his name and badge number, he walked away from my car and drove off.

This jersey cop thing is fucking bullshit.

Also, jersey tint law says nothing darker then 35% on the front windows and 20% rear.

Here is a great Vid of someone who got a ticket by a cop for having no front plate only to run into the same cop at a gas station and see his private car has no front plate..

What else do cops in Madison have to do in the middle of the night? Not like theres any real crime there. Most of the nice suburbs in the area are the same, if your out late the cops will follow you around and maybe stop you cause they have nothing better to do.

In NJ you can't have any tint on the front windows, and I believe nothing below the AS1 line on the front windshield. The rear windows don't matter, they could be spray painted black and its legal.
In reality, according to the actual wording of the law, there is nothing that says that tints are or are not illegal really. It just seems to be unwritten law that is upheld in court that you can't have tint of the front windows.

Whats the big deal? I went to high school with a girl who had a SL500, SC430 and a Porsche Turbo. All of which were pretty new if not brand new. Some people can afford to buy their children nice things.

So im not arguing that i wasnt doing anything wrong, I have tinted windows. but along with a ticket, i was given a court date so id like to know what im talking about if i want to make some sort of argument to drop the fine or something..

so any insight on the tint laws with regards to cops would be great, thanks. (in New jersey btw)
here in MN public service vehicles are exempt from tint laws
