Did anyone else wire 240 volts to their garage?

Before I finished my basement (drywall ceiling) I made certain to run 3/4" emt conduit to my garage just in case I get a Tesla or an electric car in the future. This would make it easy to fish in some copper wire to easily run a 40-50 amp charger. Did anyone else do this as well?

But I'm wondering I have a house that's only a few years old and only has 200 amps to the panel, running 1 car under 40-50 amps would be fine, but I'm wondering what would happen in 10-15 years from now when electric cars finally catch on? 200 amps running 2-3 cars is impossible. Heck, houses built in the 70s' only have 100 amps going to the main panel. I have yet to see a house with a 400 amp panel. In fact, in Illinois, when I had a 200 amp panel installed and the electric company told me if I went above this they would charge me the the industrial rate.

I am 50% sure that when the tesla model 3/e comes out I'm buying it. My brother in law bought a P85 and I'm in love with it. The amazing low end torque made me carsick after a day of driving it.

i have a subpanel in the garage currently running the lift and dedicated 240v for the industrial natural gas heat... there are a few empty slot if i ever do have to run another line... but worse case scenario, the 200 amp panel in the basement isn't hard to access from the garage...

you are right, anything over 200A single phase is considered industrial and some utilities won't even run it in residential... my best buddy is having a commercial lift installed and the original motor called for multi phase 220v... we had to buy a different motor...

in 10-15 yrs i would hope that electric car technology will advance and the batteries and electronics will improve thus reducing the burden on recharging... i.e. a 110v booster mechanism... similar to the way the output of an LED is equivalent of a 60w, but only uses 14w of energy...
